History
Born as the first son in a family of four, Manabu's early childhood consisted of a lot of trips to the doctor for treatments to his ears. As a kid, he was very prone to ear infections, which lead to a lot of time with him being isolated from other kids, often experiencing long bouts of silence from temporary hearing loss and static noise. However, growing managed to cure him of his unfortunate disposition, though he still has rather sensitive ears. His younger sister however, was not so lucky. Suffering from the same symptoms as her brother, Sayuri lost her hearing in her left ear by the age of two, and by the age of five, had completely lost all sense of hearing. Their mother, a nursery school teacher, decided to set up her own establishment, but for kids with special needs such as her daughter. The family moved to Yanagawa where their father grew up to establish their new business when Manabu was fourteen.

Since then, he's been helping out at his mother's nursery, helping take care of the various children around. He'd always been extremely hard working, and very careful with his younger sister. The kids at the school adore him and he dotes on them, leading to the strange parental habits he ended up picking up that carried over to his high school life. Because of his sister's condition however, their household is a pretty quiet one, with them playing with her in sign language, and a lot of the sounds and volumes in their household is quite muted. Even at times, the family find themselves communicating purely in sign language, so as to include the young girl in all of their interactions. Which meant, for most of his life before high school, Manabu was a pretty quiet kid. A small fight that blew out of proportion with his friends in middle school lead to the current anxieties and fears he has getting close to people.

Although he'd always be a friendly, sociable child, he was still a little introverted thanks to their lifestyle and often reverted into minor depressive bouts that stemmed from loneliness and the inability to express his own emotions very well. His family have since forth been very supportive of him, encouraging him to be more active and to go out and experience more things for himself, rather than just stay around helping at the nursery. His father was the one who suggested he get into a sport, since club activities bolster closer friendships, and it's thanks to that that Manabu has become a lot brighter in personality and a bit more open. He still has his moments of solitude, but they've become less frequent with the passage of time. He's working earnestly towards becoming a pediatrician when he's older.

Personality
Manabu has a very relaxed personality, usually very calm and soothing, thanks to his constant working around children. As such, he's developed a habit of over-tending to others needs. This ranges from things to fussing over small injuries, or making sure everyone has enough to eat. He's also especially attentive to others emotions and behaviors moreso than his own. Although he is this way, he tries to curb these habits to people he considers to be good friends, so at times one might see him making an aborted gesture, like reaching to wipe food off of a classmates face before stopping himself midway.

Despite his more parental traits, Manabu can actually be quite crude only among his friends, and is a pretty stereotypical male with his thought process. His appearance and home life make him seem rather innocent and clueless, but his room is as messy as any other teenage boy . He's not particularly shy about those things either, so he can talk about it quite easily with his friends. However, due to his home-life, he has gotten a tick where he'll automatically censor any lewd or curse words he says into family friendly epitaphs. The only times he won't do this is when he's angry about something.

He's quite outgoing and friendly, and is always up for going out and having fun when he's not helping around at work. Though all is not fun and games with him. Manabu harbors a fear of getting too close to people beyond a certain point of friendship. He has quite a lot of anxieties and is working towards trying to be more open. Though at times when he is alone, he is rather introspective. Beyond that however, he is hardworking to overcome these more negative aspects of himself. All in all, Manabu is a pretty normal teenaged boy, with hormones and emotions abound, with a rather fatherly personality. He'll instinctively take care of small, cute things, and can be rather doting on any one close to him. He's always willing to lend an ear out and a shoulder to cry, so long as he isn't required to reciprocate.
