Description A set of 3 kanzashi accessories inspired by a koi pond. I've seen several fish kanzashi done in a similar style before, (although much more complex!) and I wanted to try my own version of one. the flowing waves and koi fish are on a barrette, and the two water lilies are on a bobby pin and hair clip. The pink water lily was originally another one of my attempts to figure out a cornflower design, but once it was put together, it looked much more like a lily to me.

This is so gorgeous! I know this is YEARS later, but I saw this on Pintrest, Β it led me here and I still wanted to say something ^_^
If you don't mind my asking, how did you create the swirling water effect on the barrette? They look like long blue kanzashi petals

Thanks!

You're correct, the water is made from very long kanzashi petals. You just fold a very big square, trim it thin, then seal the back ends with a piece of very thin wire inside to make it more easily shaped.

Creative. I love seeing kanzashi other than flowers. Koi are nice.

Kireii! So pretty! I love your waterlillies, so delicate! The water turned out epically cool, too! Cutest hair clips EVER! *hugs them*

Thank you! I ended up really liking this set too, much more than I thought I would when I envisioned it. Now I want to make a whole school of koi, playing with the colors and rhinestones was way too much fun! I can think of all sorts of color schemes to try...

The detail on the koi fish is exquisite. Have you considered getting someone to model it to show what it looks like when worn?

Thanks! I was going to take a picture of the set in my own hair, but I have to wait for someone in my family to have the time to help me with the camera.

I am LOVING your koi fish!!! ^^
How did you get that shape??

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EruwaedhielElleth In reply to arielyiningloh [2012-10-08 06:32:08 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I drew a basic fish shape on stiff card, and and glued felt scraps to it to add bulk. The I covered the shape with another piece of felt, glued it down and trimmed it so I had a slightly domed fish shape to use as a base. Then I just filled it in with the petals! Does that make any sense at all? You could make any animal or shape you want like that.
