Description So, this is my third digital painting and I must admit I had a blast doing it. It was so much easier to do this one since I am becoming familiar with more brushes and blending modes in Photoshop (as opposed to blurring every single stroke as before). After painting my Femme Fatale [link] I wanted to do a male counterpart, so I worked for about 4 to 5 days on this new piece. Like before, I wanted to give emphasis on the anatomy and I think it shows. Hope you all like it.

wow wow wow. also love to do digital painting and i know that its a lot of work. very well done. sure there are things to improve.for excample to put a little blut into the skintone here and there. would make the skin look more natura. but what do i say to you... this pic looks amazing . just have to take a lot at other works of you!

Thanks a lot for your comment Yes, I agree with you. I should have added more tones to his skin. It was one of my first pieces and wasnΒ΄t too sure how to do it yet.

I agree with everyone's comments on this one. I think that technically it's your best painting thus far. There is a patients and an attention to detail here that you should be aware of.

Outstanding!

Decides the fact that this picture looks extremely erotic to my taste ( ), I ought to admit that I'm shocked about the amount of effort you pun on it.

I have to admit that I too am not familiar with the blending modes in PS and therefore fill stucked in digital painting.

I'd be really happy if you could share a small tutorial with us, showing us how you made this masterpiece?

My best wishes for more excel to come.

btw...

Hehehe, thanks a lot Pericles!
I donΒ΄t know if I am good enough yet to publish a tutorial. I, myself, have just taken some tutorials a couple of months ago to start painting in photoshop. Perhaps once I get more experience IΒ΄ll do something like that

a very well painted piece.

did you use any references? (nothing wrong with that..)

by the way, my one and only critique is that his skin is too warm, i think using some cooler shades to shade it would of given it a better feel. also a slightly wider range of colours..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

erykh In reply to asher27 [2009-02-24 04:31:23 +0000 UTC]

Hey, thanks!

Yes, I used a couple of references and tweaked them a bit. Sometimes I just canΒ΄t resist myself when I see a striking image and wnat to make my own version of it

I agree with you. I started painting this with a completely different color palette, more green-gray-ish but at the last minute decided to play with my hues (canΒ΄t help it... photoshop is stronger than me!) and liked the intense-vibrant variance. And you are right, I should have used a wider range of colors... I guess IΒ΄m not brave enough for that yet :S

asher27 In reply to erykh [2009-02-24 20:45:38 +0000 UTC]

well the warmth of the overall skin tone isnt really an issue, in fact i think its quite nice. but i think it needs some cool tones to balance it out a bit.

try using different opacities when painting it so that its not as scary at first when working with 'unnatural' skin tones like blues and greens and purples. also if you look up topics such as colour theory and mixing as well as portrait painting (even if you arent painting portraits) to get a better idea of how vast the range of colours are in skin tones as well as how to use them effectively (for example, the most difficult colour for most people to get right is the halftones on the lower side of the cheek when looking straight on).

oh and a really important lesson from colour theory - colours look a lot different when they are isolated (ie, on your colour picker in photoshop or on your palette when painting) vs when they are next to other colours in the work. wikipedia has some good examples of this in their colour theory section.

I agree with everyone else, the anatomy is spot-on.
Between the sky and colors in the body, there's
a nice contrast.
The expression combined with clouds in
the back give the art a dreamy feel.

Now....is it me....or does....he.........
bare a resemblance to the artist!?
