Description i don't get along well with titles. ~random-monkey tried to teach me about titles, saying that i should think beyond what is in the picture... i feel so random creating existential art philosophy crap, for i feel that it's for who-ever to see for themselves, and i don't want to restrict that with an all-covering title.

we did test shots outside for my possibly final project, and in the end of that, i took these.
and besides, that expression doesn't require any explaining.

I couldn't agree more about the titles. (Although looking back in my gallery years ago, you wouldn't know it. I was silly back then.) After a while, it just feels like you're being pretentious by labelling something. You've created this photo, but you don't want to direct other people's experience of it by calling it something artsy-fartsy.

And the photo itself is striking; the raw simplicity of it is very powerful.

i thought of this the other day funny enough, but the thing is that i admire how some people find it easy to create titles that bring more to their photos. i wouldn't title anything of my works if it wasn't for dA, without dA i would be naming everything on my website by the image number and version, like i do when saving them on my computer.
when i was thinking this, while walking to the store, i thought that i shall, while taking a photo, come up with a title to it that will already create more meaning to it than just the photo by itself.

I just have to say that I saw this picture one day when I were in school... and since that day I just can't forget this very picture. I thinking about it almost every day. And this picture has inspired me. I love it from the bottom of my heart. I like the compsition and the whole idea with dead plants and living human beings. I LOVE it. This is the greatest picture I've seen in a very long time. I' sorry I can't describe what it meens to me.
I think he's look like a deer too. And it's just something with deers that I like. They're special to me in some kind of way I cannot explain.
Well... if you have thought about selling this picture, I will buy it as soon as I got money.

This would be great for a final project, I liked all the pictures in this series (if it IS a series). This was my favourite, though, but I cannot find the words to express what it is about it that is so appealing. I wish I could.

I'll just make it a favourite instead.

i did these as "pre-work" for the final project, but my teachers also said that this already seems like to be the final project... i don't know, i would want to challange myself more for The Final Project, for i feel like this wasn't a challange...
i have one that i took for possibly being the final project starter, but comments about it have been that it looks like jesus, and i wouldn't want that, nor was i aiming for that. i've had a conflict about this for a while. but right now i'm doing a in-work-period for school in turku, and feel like i've gotten a nice distance about it. a friend of mine just this weekend asked me about the final project, as both of us were in our home town for fathers day, and i got thinking about it again. just this comment and the puska-message you left maybe me think about this in a nicer, more realistic, even hopeful sort of way.

thank you.

Oh, and I forgot to share my thoughts about the image. It's like a good poem, that is not too complicated, but yet packed with a powerful message. It's got alot of space for interpretation, and the feeling it arouses, is very strong. I like it, because it's mysterious, but somehow feels like it is "right" and internally sound. It is also proud of what it is, that is what I truly appreciate in art. All three respects should be present, in order for the art experience to be good: the artist's respect towards the artwork, tha artwork's self-respect and the viewer's respect. If they all combine, there should be enjoyment. And there is, now, created by this picture.

Unless the title is the second half of your artwork, which it rarely is, it should not guide too much the viewing experience, or give too many readymade opinions about how to look at the picture. So...don't waste your precious creative time by thinking the title too much (I don't think you do, all I'm just saying you shouldn't worry about it). On the other hand, too little thought can also spring silly thoughts and distraction within the viewer. I do it (give WTF names) deliberately all the time, but I suppose it's not always welcome.

I hate making titles too. I used to really agonize over titles for poems. This picture is wick'd. Very creative.

i think poems are... well if you don't figure out a title for a poem, people mind not end up even not reading past that, so i thinkt the titles on poems (and novels) are more difficult, for people that will see a photo will quite often determine if they'll want to look at the photo based on what they saw so far.

mulle vaan tuli jotain koiranputkijuttuu mieleen.

That same issue occurs when I am trying to think of a name for a picture. I try to name a photograph before I take the shot, and tehn after it's developed/touched-up I re-name it.

Creating name beforehand helps me not stray too far from the idea I'm going for... and then, just in case teh theme has drifted little askew, I rename the piece once I'm done.

I usually name photographs after a concept that it reminds me of (while at the same time not limiting) the meaning of the piece. At the same time, I'm not exactly an artist, mainly because most of the 'art' I have done is spontanious snapshots that turn out to have a high amount of balance.

If it were me, I'd name this shot 'photosynthesis' or 'stem.' Something that, in my unprofessional opinion, binds this visual metaphor even further.
