I honestly don't think using a base is a good idea but I would recommend for you to use references instead but this piece still looks awesome!!

Using bases probably isn't the wisest idea since I end up making any errors of anatomy that the original basemakerΒ did, but it's been a way for me to dip my toes back into drawing, so I am unsure if it is positive or not.

So here are two things: even the hair is white, it needs a bit more shades in theΒ the strands of hair.Β
And the eyes needsΒ especially more deeper shades, ore a eye pupil.Β
Because if you turn this picture a little bit and looks only to the her eyes, it looks a bit like panΒ fried eggs.Β

I like this character design,especially her suit,but as others already said,bases wonΒ΄t help you that much to get better.I think drawing from life or using stock fotos as a reference are a better way.

I should use this outfit more often, and I should draw from photos instead of bases, perhaps if I get more time and motivation to!

Probably you already know this, but... bases are a very bad idea. You wont learn anything working like this (and the base drawing itself have anatomy errors).

You are right, the only thing I've learned from bases is that it won't help me learn how to really draw on my own. The problem though, is that I don't know how to practice, and thus can't improve in quality. Aside traces and base usage my quality is not much different than years ago. I don't know how to see shapes or lighting or anything artistic... Thus I just started using bases to convey at least roughly what I want others to see my characters as.

Try with a drawing course, a good professor can help to improve better than anything else
