Well if you want to talk about bandwagons I think it's fair to say that Doctor Who is jumping OFF the male-dominated bandwagon, after 54 years. This isn't like if a Harry Potter character, or James Bond, changed gender. That would be directly changing the lore of those franchises. Not once in the 54 years of Doctor Who, has it EVER been stated that the Doctor is incapable of regenerating into a female, and in fact it's been confirmed canon for a few years now.

But he's male his identity is male all the girls that were his companions we're in love with him lol he ozzes that James bond mentality. If he's a woman it's changing what he is making him something else. Watch the end of the death of Clara ark in season 9 when that one gallafraion Commander was killed and turned into a girl it felt weird you got to know that dude and now he's completely different. I'm not saying I dislike doctor who for changing the doctor but instead I'm kinda mad at the studio for sorta throwing away what made doctor the doctor..

I believe the only reason he is a girl is simply because the show is dropping in ratings. It needs a new gimmik. But that is what makes me angry is the writers and directors going at that then actually working on fixing what made the show drop.

I never said that the Doctor has ever WANTED to regenerate into a female. Only that it is possible. I agree with you that the decision was probably made at this moment because of the low ratings, but the concept has been on the cards for decades. True Doctor Who fans would know this, and know that the change is not equal to any other major fictional characters.

I am so crazy happy about this news - you can't believe. I have been walking around waving my hands in the air and screaming quietly. I have been hoping for a Lady Thirteen for so long, and my wish actually came true! Personally, I'm thrilled. I'm still going to miss Capaldi terribly, and I'm still upset about the finale, but seeing Jodie Whittaker stepping into the role helps.

Its been written on the wall for ages. It was already laid out that timelords can regenerate into the opposite gender. It was bound to happen someday. There is ZERO reason to get pissy over the doctor being a woman.
