another picture of my first unicorn

I was deleting pictures from my camera and found this

This was my first unicorn sculpture. She is made out of polymer clay and magic-sculpt epoxy over a wire and foil armature. She is completely hand sculpted. Painted in acrylics and has 18kt gold leaf on her horn. She is 5 1/4 in tall at the tip of the horn

Lovely photograph. At first, obviously, I thought of Ridley Scott and 'Legend', but looking at it again, it looks like the B&W illustrations Pauline Bayne did for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' with white space and dark trees? You considered photoshopping this or making it an inked drawing?

I don't have photoshop or any thing that's really comparable, it would be interesting to try tho. I have thought of painting some of the photos, but I hadn't thought of making an inked drawing.

I love your gift for making unicorns >w>

I wish I could do that.

Did it take you a while to learn how to do it--well actually, the better question would be HOW long did it take you to learn it?

Thanks

I have only been sculpting for about a year, and I was never really able to draw horses untill I started sculpting them. Sculpting really helped me to learn anatomy and be more aware of small details. I spend months obsessing over the detail on each sculpture untill I feel like I can't gain any more knowledge from it, then I just try to take what I have learned and make the next one better than the last.

I wouldn't call it a gift because its not something that I was just able to do, I spend a lot of time studying anatomy charts and pictures of real horses.

Anyway, always try your best, you never know what you are capable of untill you try. You might just surprise yourself, and if things don't turn out the way you hoped, there's that old saying "if at first you don't succeed try try again".

^w^ Great advice. Thank you!

And by the way, it IS a gift. Not many people can do that just by studying anatomy charts.
