Description Sunrise - Mount Rose Lookout, Lake Tahoe, NV

Overlooking Incline Village. The lower elevation received about 2 feet of snow despite not having any snow on the trees. Tahoe Has received up to 600 inches already this season and we still have another 4 months left. Mammoth Mountain has a 30+ foot snow pack at the top, and Mt. Rose, behind me, has received almost 50 feet in approximately 2.5 months.

Hey - that's cool. A lot has changed since the 80's lol! At least it was the Hyatt and not the abomination of a name it used to be in the 70's!

Fantastic image, the lighting is perfect! Did you decide to drive up there when you saw the cloud?^^

Sounds like you have been getting lots of snow this year. I'm glad to hear that. Alberta seems to get a lot of snow this winter as well. Where I live we had 20-30 cm of snow in early november (lol) but it was 2 °C so everything melted almost instantly. After that we got next to no snow. : / Winter's so pointless without snow. Cold, dark/grey and wet. I hope spring arrives soon around here.

I was kind of forcing myself to go out - sunrise is hard when you are warm and cozy in your home and you know it's freezing outside. I have no problem waking up early, as I wake up at 4am pretty much everyday! I did see the cloud in the sky and thought I would like to have a "puff" of color in the sky. I was hoping it was a little closer though. Overall I happy. I want to get out to other areas - it's just hard though when you have a family. I'm glad you like it - next week is looking like we're getting hammered with snow again for 10 straight days. I do enjoy a good thunderstorm. I would like to enjoy it during summer though - not winter. I grew up in Houston, TX and the coldest it ever got was probably 2...wait...how did you make that degree symbol! HA! Anyways - Christmas without snow is crappy!! But I have had no snow here during Christmas - it happens!

Yeah, going out early is kind of meh when it's cold outside. But on the flipside you can look forward to your warm home and a cup of tea/coffee. Does this mean you are getting more snow than usual?

Uh, I made that symbol with my vastly superior german keyboard! Jokes aside, on german keyboards it's shift+the key under Esc. On english keyboard you have to use some numblock (ASCII) combination. Should be either Alt+248 or Alt+0176. Texas is quite a bit south though, no wonder it wasn't getting as cold.

And snow on christmas... That's a dream I put away sometime during my youth. I think we had one christmas with snow in the past 10 years. In the 90s we had snow regularly but global warming hit hard here.

haha! Yes, I am very envious of your keyboard! We normally receive about 500 - 600 inches annually, so if it stopped snowing this year, we would be at average. This is unlikely though, as we still have four months of snow season left or five months if it snows in June as it usually does.

Here is a photo I have hanging in my bathroom of Mt. Rose Hwy in July, the last season we received this much snow in January - 25 feet!

ps. NEVER GOOGLE "SIERRA SNOW" as I found out, unless your browsers parental control is turned on! hahaha

Well, that's good news then. And wow that's a ton of snow. And in summer? We have come a long way apparently...

I startpaged "sierra snow" out of curiosity and only got pictures of snow in the sierras. hm...

It is a scenic lookout - those metal things are pointing towards landmarks. There are five total I believe.

Thank you for the answer.
Well, no use if all covered by snow, must be quite high.
