This outfit goes well with the roller skate outfit. Serves up chocolate malts and burgers by day, serve up justice at night! I've always liked these retro looks. There's a lot you could say for an original outfit as well done as this one!

I think you are right, and since Black Cat already has a "real" back story, I went ahead and created my own retro heroine character (which I think you have already seen).  Thank you for the idea!

You're welcome! The Satin Shadow's gorgeous.  Maybe you could use that character device in which she's almost indestructible, but not super strong. She looks like she would be quick and nimble; I guess you'd have to possess those attributes if you roller skate and serve malts at the same time!

Yes, good hand-eye coordination and agility are essential!  I'm thinking about making a modern version of her to use in 's Steel City Heroines group, but I hadn't come up with any powers or weaknesses or anything, or even decided i she should have any.  That would probably be a pretty good combination to steal from Sapphire.

A humble suggestion on my part: Maybe she has telekinetic powers that give her punches, kicks, leaps extra power. However, she can only keep it up for short periods of time. Of course, she could be indestructible without the ability to fly or super strength, or she could depend on skill and gadgets a la Batman. I look forward to whatever you decide.

I kind of like that idea.  I'd like her to be powerful but I don't want it to be limitless.

Thank you! I had a thought inspired by a Star Wars novel--I think it was "Shadows of the Empire." Luke's still learning about the Force, and one aspect he's realizing is the need to total concentration. If he lets his concentration slip for an instant, the Force goes "poof" and he's a mere mortal again. Darth Vader has a similar problem when using the Dark Side. As the author said, 'happiness poisoned it.' Vader needs to maintain anger or hate; if not, the Force slips out of his control, too.

Maybe Satin Shadow has a similar problem with telekinetic power. I find myself envisioning a restrained Satin being hampered by a blaring radio or television that makes collecting her thoughts almost impossible.

I use a similar concept with my heroine Purity, actually.  I like the idea of most blaster and mental-type powers requiring at least a modicum of concentration, unless the powers aren't very strong to begin with.  It balances things out for stories and RP.

There are definitely some similarities, but you did a great job differentiating yourself from her, too.  I love the white, and I probably would never have made the connection if you hadn't mentioned it.  Some say I am a bit slow, though.

Heh, I've quite a collection of her old Harvey comics saved as "e-comics". You should venture to the DCM some time

I am already so far behind on my comic book reading I will never catch up, but I really like some of this older stuff.  I like the Marvel and DC titles I follow but they're all so *serious*.

I'm doing editing on e-comics (have been for the past few years), mainly for my DPL blog. It doesn't pay but it's a blast reading some of the older books, especially from the 1930's-'50's. I currently have about a 600 book back-log If you venture to the DCM, look under "Quality Comics" for pre-DC stuff. You also might want to peruse through Fawcett, Fiction House, Harvey & D.S. Publishing

Thank you for the tips.  At the rate I'm going it seems unlikely I'll ever get to them.  If I ever do manage to get caught up on the Marvel Now and New 52 stuff I follow or want to pick up, I have this huge Huntress anthology that contains every comic she was ever in, and I'm only up through maybe the first 20 issues.  So maybe someday.  hehe

That's exactly what it is, although when she was telling me about it she had a dyslexic moment and called it her "gof" machine, which is how it shall ever be referred to now.

Cracoviia [2014-05-15 08:57:24 +0000 UTC]

Lovely outfit - I have to admit that my first thought was 'is that what Batgirl wears to the swimming pool?' There must have been a fashion at some point for superhero characters to have masks with very pointy ears, recently got The Long Halloween and while Catwoman in that has a great costume, the 'ears' make me think bat, not cat.

Haven't seen that version of Black Cat. Your work is culturally educational as well as sexy, kochanie

Though if I was to cosplay one I think I would rather do the modern furry outfit, much warmer in cold winters

EthereaS In reply to Cracoviia [2014-05-20 00:45:16 +0000 UTC]

From what I have read, she was a pretty popular character from in the mid-'40s and '50s, when there were many more independent comic book companies.  I think she was one of the main characters for Harvey Comics, if I remember correctly.  Don't quote me, but I believe she was a former stunt woman turned actress who went about fighting crime as the Black Cat by night.  I think she's completely unrelated to the modern Marvel Black Cat, although maybe Marvel bought her rights so they could use the name?  Not sure.
