As pretty as this is, they aren't ever going to get that high, they aren't "fighter aircraft".

In original there are civilian glider. There are modified version out there with pressurized cockpits and stronger repulsors which reach hundreds of meters above the ground.

I am actually curious.

From different Star Wars wikis. They say, that the rebels modified the Airspeeder to Swampspeeders, Snowspeeders, Sandspeeders or Skyspeeders depending on the planet they operate.
Here is the passage
"While snowspeeders are the most recognizable Rebel airspeeders, the Alliance has modified the T-47 to serve on a variety of worlds. Sandspeeders include advanced filters preventing sand from clogging the engine and steering flaps, cockpit and engine cooling systems to combat overheating, and sensitive radar navigational guidance systems for use in sandstorms. Swampspeeders have been thoroughly waterproofed and are equipped with flotation devices, while skyspeeders have pressurized cabins for high altitude flights."

From what I've read, they can reach 175 meters off the ground. That's a tenth of a mile!

There are also modified versions with a pressurized cockpit and stronger repulsors so they can operate in upper athmospheres.

Love this! People still call them snowspeeders despite the clear line "we are having difficulty adapting them to the cold"

Wait, shouldn't they be close to the ground?

There are different versions of the T-47. One version includes a pressurized cabin and a stronger repulsor to reach a maximum flight height of 175 kilometers (up to the beginning of the Thermosphere of a planet).

Not quite. Some Alliance T-47s were modified into skyspeeders, by fitting more powerful repulsorlifts and a pressurised cockpit. And in SWTCW, we see LAAT/i gunships operating in the upper atmosphere, as well as the Cloud Cars in Episode V.
