Me and my buddies from the Euderion Fangroup try to deal with a little world building for our projects during the corona lockdowns. Currently we made a bit history stuff for all the ships with the name Euderion which came before our Akira ship in the late 24th Century. Here we have the Captain of the second ship with the Name Euderion, an Constellation class prototype from the 2260s.

So, this is Gihlan't'aehn, Captain of the USS Euderion NCC-1951. He was first introduced by Star Trek Illustrator and designer Rick Sternbach in an article about the Constellation class starships. According to this article, Gihlan was largely responsible for the development of the Constellation class. After Admiral Gihlan's death, the last Constellation class ship to be constructed was named after him. The USS Gihlan NCC-9761.

Character Overview

Born in 2201, Gihlan't'aehn is a Taulihn from the planet Taulihna IV, a member world of the Federation. He was one of the first of his people to decide to join Starfleet, having already had positive experience in a Federation exchange program in his youth.

In 2256 Gihlan was promoted to captain and took over the post of deputy head of the Proxima shipyard in the Alpha Centauri system. When the first three prototypes of the future Constellation class were to be constructed in the same year, it went back to him, naming the prototype that was to be built on Proxima "Euderion", after the founders of the Alpha Centauri colonies. Three years later, Gihlan would also be given command of the completed USS Euderion NCC-1951.

He was to command the ship until 2270, when he was promoted to Commodore and took over command of the Copernicus shipyard. Due to the fleet-wide phase 2 upgrade of the Constitution class and the resulting technical advances, series production of the prototype Constellation class was suspended until further notice. They didn't want to risk building brand new ships that would be outdated after a few years. When the Constitution Refit was completed in 2273, the decision was finally made to breathe new life into the Constellation Project, combined with the knowledge gained during the Refit program. Commodore Gihlan would spend the next two years collecting the data gathered from the Constellation prototypes and putting them into series production, which happened in 2275.

Admiral Gihlan died in an accident in the 2330s. When this became known, the very last Constellation class ship under construction was renamed the USS Gihlan after him.
