I was so confused during the movies cause everything looked so familiar yet different. I even got into a debate with my sister about how the TIEs are far more capable then how they are shown in the original trilogy. Only after finishing the moving and spending some times in Wookepidia I learned that those were entirely new TIE models based on the old /LN serine as with virtually evening else in the film. Everything shown in the film are progressive updates of GCW era equipment.
The entire canonical "Same but upgraded" method was a nice touch by Disney.Β
Still, would love to see the TIE interceptor though. Y-wing was obsolete even before the Battle of Yavin, but the TIE/In was bleeding edge technology. Strange that it is not still in service in some capacity.Β

For me it was a bit disapointing seeing only TIE Fighter and X-Wings. Ok, the Y-Wing and the A-Wing was old, even in the rebellion era. But wat was with the B-Wing, the E-Wing and the new TIE's, the Defender, the Interceptor and such?

A-wing is old? It was introduced after the Battle of Yavin.Β I think you are confusing the A-wing with the R-22 Spearhead, a slimier fighter. As for the rest, they are all part of the EU, so it is unlikely they will make an appearance. The B-wing (Now called Blade wing) is an exception now though, as it appeared in Star Wars: Rebels.

Oh, there is a difference between the Spearhead and the A-Wing? Never know that.
Still they had shown some other fighters as the X-Wings and Tie Fighter.

It was a good film. Not the best, but definitly honored the old trilogy. Abrams showed that he makes better Star Wars Movies than Star Trek. I give 8 from 10 Points.
