Description
The battle is over. Pegasi in blue armor scan the hills for stragglers while the troops on the ground search the fog-filled battle plain for survivors. Everything that remains of the camp is either wrecked or buried in the charred aftermath of the Sun Princess's fury. The full, red moon quivers at the horizon; the Lunar Princess barely having the strength to keep it aloft after expending so much energy in battle.It is yet another 'glorious night' for the New Lunar Republic.
This picture didn't turn out like I'd planned at all. (For one, it was supposed to be a 3-minute concept sketch for a small side-project. Three days later, I realized I'd gotten quite carried away with the single shot I was supposed to have moved on from.)
I'm still not happy with the overall composition (nor the posing or lighting,) but onward, ho! One can't expect perfection in every picture!
BTW, I came up with the above storyline on the spot.

Your depiction of the picture tell aftermath of just one battle. If Celestia uses each time the burned ground tactics then it's no wander NMM lost.
Could you perhaps try to make one with the aftermath of battle with Discord. After all you don't win the revolution with just one fight. As Mad as Discord might have been, there would had been those supporting him, for one reason or another, as he had proven to have quite cunning mind in him.

Not quite. This is more of a speculative history where NMM is a careful, plotting antagonist instead of a wicked, power-hungry madmare. (Thus, here she has her own army of ponies fighting in opposition to Celestia's rulership of the sky.)
The original fairy tale (in S1) never mentions how much time elapsed between Luna's transformation and her banishment to the moon (and how much, if any, of the fairy tale supposedly got changed over the thousand years before Twi read it,) so the possibilities make the imagination go wild.

Thanks! I totally agree about the lines vs. background. I was iffy about posting it at all for that very reason. (But since the best way to fix it would be to completely redraw the whole thing, I opted to post this and do a version 2.0 later.)
Actually, CU's early(er) works inspired me to start drawing. There probably are some subliminal influences hidden in there.
