Description A speck of dust on a nail's end is a whole new world, if you look at it close enough.

Another one of the illustrations for a series of biology textbooks published by the Finnish National Agency for Education. The books are aimed for students who need extra support, such as those with learning difficulties, or immigrants still learning the language. An interesting challenge!

The idea of this illustration was to show how different organisms fit on a size scale, and how much of the natural world is invisible to us. The first part of the illustration shows a human hair on a nail. The second, a dust mite standing by the hair. The third, a dandelion pollen grain, a baker's yeast cell, and a human red blood cell piled next to them. The fourth, two colibacteria in the shadow of the pollen grain.

There is dust everywhere. Even on a speck of dust.

Thanks, Philo! That's nice to hear. It would be cool to take this further, down to the molecules and atoms.

I am wondering how the red blood cell got on the blunt end of the nail. Great art though.Β
