I think maybe he wears a few layers of both pants and undershits BECAUSE he is thin (didn't he comment in some interviews that he doesn't like how "scrawny" he is?)

He ended up showing a lot of bare skin. Like, sex scene with Amanda Perry bare skin lol.

Yeap, only this single time, where it couldn't be avoided. But even in that scene I got the impression that they try to show as less as possible. Just try to compare the way that scene was shot with the scene between Scott and Chloe in 1x05 "Light", or the wild scene between Scott and James in 1x17 "Pain". It's like 'let's only show the well trained young actors, but not those who don't spend 4+ hours a day doing weight training'. I guess it's some kind of how "Hollywood" and a lot of TV watchers want to have their actors, perfect trained bodies only!
Nonetheless I liked the scene, and wondered how they did it, kissing the whole time, while talking, or vice versa.
In this special case I can also think it has to do with the fact that RC is a bit shy, and don't really want to do show too much skin anymore, something I can understand, and respect. But a girl can dream, can't she?

Well...you've opened up a whole discussion here. I'll just say that there are different types of sex (of course) and the way a scene is filmed depends on that. A hot, rough, showy sex scene between Rush and Mandy just wouldn't fit them. The scene creates the mood and in that episode they wanted us to see Rush happy, relaxed and glowing with love.
Carlyle's been totally naked on camera, I somehow doubt that he's shy. We can only speculate. If you want to see him naked, watch The Full Monty xD!!!

Damn, the post was eaten up! Have to write it again.
Only a small discussion, I hope that's all right, is it?
No, that's not what I tried to say. Every sex scene we've seen in SGU was different made, depending on the people involved. E.G. the one scene with Chloe and Scott was very romantic; or I do remember a scene with Greer and Park, with was also far away from being hot, rough and showy. Those scenes showed alongside with close ups to get the faces, also more or less the whole bodies. These last scenes wouldn't be really necessary, they were just included to show some young, and perfect bodies, imo.
The scenes with Rush and Mandy only showed close ups, and they're concentrated on the faces, they could have included one last shot where you could see (more or less) the whole bodies, but they didn't. It wouldn't have hurt the message. And, btw, I thought the whole kissing a lot, was starting to get very hot during the end.
I'm not sure whether I was able to explain correctly what I wanted to say, but I had the impression that the way the different scenes were executed, was not only to show different kinds of sex, but also to give the viewers what they prefer.
I know that Carlyle has done some films where he was totally naked (and I know them ), but he didn't do them lately. I remember a comment he did on the DVD "Ravenous" where he's joking about the such a scene, and asked why people are that interested in seeing his bum. Sounds a bit like he's not that comfortable with those scenes, although he does them. But, I may be wrong.

Yeah, of course, all I can do is guessing. What you wrote fits to my first impression of that scene, I recognized it as different to those other scenes we've seen so far. Second thought, but this one was actually hot, the others were just..., not really interesting, and I never get all this hype about those "provoking" (so called) sex scenes. I didn't felt anything seeing them, they were just typical clichΓ©d scenes which, imo, just were there to show some young bodies, which is in itself never necessary, but gives some people what they want to see.
For me the impression still lasts that the different handling of the scenes had also a lot to do with clichΓ©d viewing, and executing habits. But, maybe I'm running after some imaginary, white rabbits, which might be possible.
And sorry, for derailing this area with a lot of post which don't really belong here.

oh yes, he is thin but... this is kind of sexy >3
