Description I had two panels for a story I did a year ago to re-do. I was helping a friend with the readability of the story, and two panels were throwing people off. This meant making a guy look more \'dead\'!

I\'ll be honest, the past few weeks, I think I\'ve been really too tough on myself, I\'ve been really stopping and starting on pieces. I couldn\'t figure out what the problem was. I think I was looking at too many amazing artists, and that messes me up. I\'d like to do certain things that they do, but ultimately those things just happen when they need to for me. So I have to re-teach myself to think like myself. The main thing to get over it this time was reteaching myself to stop trying to get it right by abandoning the first attempt. I work best when I just don\'t quit on an image. The key is thinking things through mentally in terms of the pose. When I try to thumbnail like other artists, I bring in hesitation and doubt.

I think I\'m getting back on track...we\'ll give it a few days, and if I\'m producing more, then yes...if not...then I\'ve still got some work to do...

Diggin' the linework on the musculature in this one, Evan.

Thanks Evan, I was feeling really confused on how I wanted to do things for a couple weeks, whether I wanted to spot things more, go a bit rougher with the line work, or even further simplify. But I had to stop thinking and just react to the subject matter, that's when I'm at my best. I think now is time for me to stop fighting so much because I think I've found a style, and I just need to continue working on that. I talk to Cully Hamner, and his main critique for me always is that I just need to find a consistent style. But this image pretty much sums up what I'm about comic-wise (I'll always have my other styles for illustration though).

Dude I'm struggling with the same stuff (regarding a single style), but you've got it exactly right. You just need to react according to the subject matter and let instinct take you from there. It certainly worked well here buddy.

Thanks Evan! Yeah, I think that we're really settling into our general styles now, and it's all about refining. I used to change styles on a whim...but that was because I didn't know what my style was. But I feel that the both of us really have distinct styles that people are getting to know us by, and we're getting more comfortable with them. I think that's when it becomes more about 'refining' than 'redefining.'

Sometimes a person can be his/her hardest critic. It's good to have a standard, and to set the bar to high... to never be satisfied... and all that.

Just don't be to hard on yourself.
