Description On the evening of August 21, 1992, we're on CSX's former A&WP Line outside of Montgomery AL to chase Atlanta & West Point P-74 Pacific #290 on a New Georgia Excursion from Atlanta GA to Montgomery. The locomotive would be running over both it's home rails & Western Railway of Alabama tracks between Montgomery to Dothan AL & return as part of trips sponsored by the Atlanta Chapter NRHS. Soon, we caught the 290 & her train racing along at 40 mph, headed for Montgomery. Assisting the 290 on this trip is one of New Georgia's Southern FP7's, which is also used for power for the coaches. The train would arrive in Montgomery, that night, while we headed back to the lodge for the night. Little did we know, those trips between Montgomery & Dothan, would be the last runs of the 290, as after the 1992 Season, the locomotive would be taken out of service for running gear work. Today, the locomotive is undergoing cosmetic restoration at the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth GA.
