Description (Biography of the species coming soon!) --

Pure Rainwings

Harbingers of the treetops and the delicate rain, RainWings rule the forests with a gentle talon, diving between endless sunlight and sheets of green canopies, unbothered by the world around them.

Basic Information

Anatomy

RainWings have long, graceful bodies, with large ruffs behind their ears that flare when afraid or agitated, with long, curved horns, and prehensile tails that aid them with traversing the thick jungle branches and vines. This allows them to climb trees and hang in the rainforest that they inhabit, like birds of paradise.

Rainwings have small, round scales, capable of changing their appearance and colors, though most prefer to be vivid, bright colors, though they sometimes have trouble keeping their emotions from seeping into their scales.  Most have a default color scheme that they refer to when not expressing their emotions (such as Kinkajou's vibrant yellow and magenta scales, or Jambu's soft pink ones).

RainWings' eyes are able to change color as well, and most are unable to camouflage when they are afraid or injured; otherwise, they are able to blend into their surroundings at will.  RainWings bear the ability to mimic the appearance of the other tribes to an uncanny degree with their scales; dragonets of rain develop their color-shifting abilities whilst they are still in their eggs, which are often smooth and white.

Biological Traits

Their lifespans tend to be around the same timing of the other tribes, most reaching around 113 to 114 years old, though there are outliers of the age of 116 to 117 years old, though this is not uncommon for dragons.  Their height and weight are usually the smallest amongst the dragon tribes, reaching just around 14 to 15 feet (4.57 m) when full grown, though this is still small compared to the other tribes, which usually range by 15 to 18 feet in length; their weight is usually the lightest, too, both a product of their diets and their small size. Their lifestyles also beg for them to be small and agile, allowing them to weave through the trees with ease, and having large, hulking bodies would hinder their ability to do this effectively.

Genetics and Reproduction

All dragons are born through eggs, laid by their mothers, and preferably incubated in their home environment. For RainWings, the humidity, and most importantly, sunlight, are the two main components in their hatching and incubation process.  Their eggs are stark white, and their shifting abilities are honed whilst still in their egg, and in the presence of other tribe eggs, they have the uncanny ability to mimic their shells. It takes about five months for a RainWing to hatch, which is about the time for most of the other tribes to hatch, though they (the RainWings), are by far the shortest.

Growth Rate & Stages

Their growth cycles are similar to most other dragonets from different tribes in the way that many of their natural defenses are rarely developed at birth, but they spend the first three years of their lives mostly defenseless, and in this case, they are unable to generate their infamous venom, but unlike most other tribes, they are able to use these tools a bit earlier.

Many of their skills are inherent, and most hatch with a decent ability to tree scale and spit their venom fair distances, but this can be honed with practice and age, not to mention their ability to shift scales practically out of the age, and this usually manifests as the ability to camouflage, though this, too, has to be perfected with practice. As with all tribes, their age of maturity is seven years old, but at this point, all of their abilities should be developed, at least to a minor extent.

Ecology and Habitats

The optimal environment for their species is in their name; the rainforest. They are built for the thick entanglement of leaves and vines, prime arenas for them to camouflage themselves, hiding in the thicket. Not only that, but most of their food sources (sunlight and fruit) are present in abundance, so very seldom do they find themselves in a situation where food shortages are an issue.  Lastly, the humid, warm air is without the frigid cold of the tundra or the dry heat of the desert, so it is perfect for them, though it is possible for them to adapt to different environments.

Dietary Needs and Habits

RainWings are often referred to as vegetarians, which wouldn't be completely wrong. Whilst they are capable of consuming flesh, many are averse to the effort that it would take to capture an animal, not to mention that many keep the beasts of their rainforest (most notably sloths) under their care as pets.  To this end, they mostly consume fruits, berries, and nuts to supplement their diets, with the occasional animal if they can manage to capture one, but many find the thought repulsive.

Biological Cycle

Their moods and abilities are directly related to the sun and its cycles, seeing as a huge portion of their day is spent absorbing its light during a period called "sun-time" where they rest and soak in the sun's rays.  There are several benefits to this, those being that not only is their appetite staved from doing so, but much of their energy and ability to shift their scales (as well as their color and vibrancy) is directly proportional to how long they stay in the sun and how much sleep they can get.  RainWings that are blocked from sunlight find that their moods are often more somber, their scales less colorful, and their appetite never quite sated.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They have a simple, non-conflicting lifestyle, with food and shelter never being an issue, as well as having no involvement with conflicts, notorious for their absence during the "SandWings' War of Succession". This often leads to them being underestimated by the other tribes, regarded as lazy, unintelligent, and weak. The RainWings have a unique structure regarding their royal challenges, which remains in accordance with their pacifistic beliefs. Before Queen Glory's reign, each of the queens was on a rotation-based schedule, and it was handed to any dragon that wanted the position. This was cause for a lot of rulers being horrifically under-qualified for the job as the commander-in-chief.

It should be noted that dragons with "shiny names" are more likely to want the position. Many RainWings use blowguns with sleeping darts as a 'weapon', coated with tree-frog poison, though it is non-lethal, allowing them to be used several times. They aer used as a form of self-defense for they can put strange dragons to sleep that are caught wandering about the forest, or for the games that they play.

The RainWings are amongst the few tribes that keep animals as pets, most notably sloths when dragons are chosen by the aforementioned creatures during their suntime. A dragon can own several sloths, and it is taboo to consume sloths to any degree in the rainforest. To ensure that they are not blood relatives, RainWings perform a venom test before having eggs as this prevents inbreeding in the tribe. Formal families do not exist in their tribe and they participate in the communal raising of dragonets, with everyone pitching in to help when needed.

RainWings dragonets are trained in aiming their venom, gathering fruit, and gliding through the trees without getting snagged by the foliage. Though they are not taught to read or write, some may train to become medics, as they often have multiple healers in their village.  The healers tend to keep their scales a calming blue or white color. Under Queen Glory's rule, RainWings have made strides to become more organized in their sorting of eggs and may have begun forming small familial units, especially since they were unable to count or track their eggs in the past.

Dragons are made to keep watch in the Rainforest for danger, that being both RainWings and NightWings together.  With this, they have since begun teaching their youth how to read and write once more, and under the request of Queen Glory, are attempting to grow a Moon Globe Tree in the rainforest, gifted to them by the Ice Kingdom to provide them with light.

Domestication

They are not in need of any real "domestication", but they do need help organizing themselves and finding an actual structure in terms of familial ties, the tracking of their young, and the like, all of which have begun to take place under Glory's rule.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

For some time, the Night Kingdom was kidnapping RainWings to use their venom as a weapon, studying and experimenting on them so that they could utilize the incredibly powerful substance, whilst also trying to find ways of defending against it. They found that inorganic materials such as metal and stones could be used to protect the users from the effects of the venom.

Facial characteristics

Slender features frame their faces, whilst the tops of their heads are typically dark blue, and surrounding their eyes are bright, sky blue rings, with freckles of yellow framing the borders. Long, delicate horns cover their heads, curved inwards.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They are known to inhabit the rainforest region, which is where their kingdom happens to be, but it is common knowledge that nearly two thousand years prior, in Darkstalker's time, they used to roam the land of Pyrrihia quite freely, though they still roosted in the rainforest region, and they made a living selling their wares and the like.  To this end, they have since begun traveling the land once more, though it should be noted that many RainWings the land of Pyrrihia and had migrated to Pantala, the neighboring continent across the sea.

Average Intelligence

They are actually, generally speaking, quite clever, though their drive to use their abilities effectively is lacking, given their usual lax and pacifistic nature.  Most are content with simply lounging around, though this is more a product of their behavior and culture than it is a genetic trait, seeing as outliers such as Glory, who wasn't raised with the beliefs and mannerisms of the typical RainWings, bears high intelligence and is proactive with her intentions to get things done, contrary to the popular belief that all RainWings were weak, stupid, and lazy.

It is known that RainWings used to invest more effort in the education of their dragonets, but following the time of Darkstalker, they have since stopped doing so, the grand majority of their species having little to no academic experience, that including how to read and write, but their knowledge of blowdarts and other tools such as that has not waned.  Most of their knowledge is centered upon non-lethal means of confrontation, and they do not invest much energy in their military or anything of the sort.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their hearing and eye-sight are amongst the more sensitive varieties, even sporting a degree of night vision, though not to the extent that the SeaWings possess. They do not bear any known animus dragons, though they do have the ability to propel a corrosive venom from two long retractable fangs, as well as the inherent ability (at least in most) to manipulate their scales to change their appearance, allowing them to blend into their surroundings. This is done by manipulating and bending light, though they are also capable of reflecting a RainWing's emotional state.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

They are not known to house any symbiotic and parasitic species.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Typical to the tribes, their names usually range in terms of the local fauna, animals, and cadence of their habitat, and in this case, it happens to be themed towards the rainforest. They can be named after plants, animals, fruits, and adjectives indicative of the rainforest, such as Tamarin (animal), Coconut (fruit), Exquisite (adjective), or Orchid (plant), and they tend to cycle through names for each dragonet. Often times, dragons throughout their history bear the same name as they simply go back to the top of the list when they reach the bottom.

Major Organizations

Their kingdom is situated in the jungle/rainforest region of the continent of Pyrrihia, with others having small settlements in Pantala. Some have begun attending the Jade Mountain Academy, with many other dragonets from the varying tribes present in their lands.

Beauty Ideals

Treasured is the vibrance of their scales, with many choosing colorful variations of their scales both to express their beauty, but also to allow others to see what they're feeling. Something else that is ideal is the high, optimistic moods that are common to their kind, and many find it much more attractive to be happy and bright, than moody and low.

Gender Ideals

Unfortunately, there isn't anything displayed on their gender ideals and preferences.

Courtship Ideals

There isn't anything specific stated in terms of their courtship ideals, apart from the fact that they do not want inbreeding to be an issue, so they ensure that before having eggs, they conduct the venom test to make sure two partners are not related, given their lack of a cohesive familial structure.

Relationship Ideals

Unfortunately, there isn't anything displayed on their relationship ideals and preferences.

Average Technological Level

Many of their tools are related to their regions, like many of the tribes, like their blow-darts that can be used to put their adversaries to sleep, or grass huts, and such. However, they haven't applied much effort to discover new means of using their tools further than that of simple commodities.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

They usually speak the standard dragon language, though they are attuned to reading the coloration of their peers to guage their emotions and thoughts from another creature, which serves to compliment their words.

Common Etiquette Rules

Their society isn't really built off of etiquette and mannerisms, or even hierarchies, really. It's pretty free reign, though Queen Glory has taken the seat as the Queen, the first actual seat of power in their Kingdom in, apparently, centuries.

Common Dress Code

They don't really have a dress code given the fact that they are dragons, but some are known to adorn themselves with flowers and other accessories, but not much more.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Their culture is built through peace, relaxation, and pacifism, so they tend to take non-violent action, which comes in the form of not using their venom on other living creatures, using non-fatal sleeping darts to control and transport dragons they perceive as dangerous, and the like.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Their tradition of pacifism is run through their ritual of selecting their Queens, which is placed in several competitions that will test their skills in tree gliding, fruit gathering, flower picking, and camouflaging, all of which is achieved through team efforts and the victor(s) are given the seat of Queen.

Common Taboos

The concealment of ones scales is akin to blocking the only means of visual representation of ones emotions, which is viewed as strange and unsettling and often the source of ridicule and shunning amongst their kind.

History

Not much is known about their history apart from the fact that used to sell their potions, elixirs, and other wares to the tribes during Darkstalker's time, not to mention the fact that they were once able to read and write rather well at one time, though it isn't known why they have lost their knowledge.

Generally, their history is uncovered, that being their past queens, the changes that their kingdoms have undergone, and why many of their kind fled Pyrrihia and migrated to Pantala.  This is all that was known about their kind.

Common Myths and Legends

Unfortunately, there isn't anything displayed on their myths and legends.

----

Scientific Name -

Draconia Raina

Lifespan -

Like most other tribes, upwards to 110 to 115 years

Conservation Status -

The RainWings are numerous and their numbers ever-growing; they do not have an issue in terms of their ability to reproduce in any regard, though they do have the issue of maintaining a steady count and record of the eggs that are laid, who laid them, and their progress through development, resulting in a lot of lost eggs and confusing lineages, to say the least. Though they are numerous, they would undoubtedly have a larger population had they made an effort to keep track of their eggs in the first place.

Average Height -

Usually 6 to 6'5 feet tall from horn-to-talon, or about 1.98 meters in height

Average Weight -

Usually, around 150 to 170 pounds, or 68 to 77 kilograms, making them the lightest of the dragon tribes in terms of weight.

Average Length -

Typically around 14 to 15 feet from horn-to-tail, or about 4.57 meters in length

Average Physique -

Long and lanky, they are more akin to a noodle than that of your average, stocky dragon, though they do sport sturdy forelimbs and back limbs, built to propel them through the trees, along with long, prehensile tails that allow them to hang onto branches, balance in the air or trees, and pull themselves when skimming through the forest.

Body Tint, Coloring and Marking -

Their coloration varies depending on their emotions, though the color that they are born with is a typical iridescent green, spotted with blue, and dressed with small yellow freckles. Their wings are colored orange with red gradients retreating inward towards their bodies. Their underbellies are light green, and they have red spikes traveling down their bodies to the tips of their tails.

Geographic Distribution -
--(Rainforest region)--

--Note: This is an altered version where the wings have been scaled down to, hopefully, better suit what would be envisioned for a RainWing!--
