hm! great question. this is on canvas... i do not always prime my canvases that way they will stain. in this piece, i drew my lines with pencil, then polyurethaned the canvas in a few areas to keep my lines in, and so the india ink would not bleed, went over my lines (with india ink), then took acrylic color to it. the polyurethane gave it texture.
