Funny, but what happened to Trixie's face and horn when she was telling Chrysalis about her ' not being a pony'?

It's how Trixie sees herself, she thinks she looks as good as a super model.

Changelings ARE ponies. Maybe not in the comics, but they're not fit to line a bird cage with.
Maybe if Trixie loves her enough Chrysi will leave in peace.

Uh no, changelings are changelings, they might LOOK like ponies, but they're not.

According to the official 'Elements of Harmony' guidebook, under the changelings entry it states "Changelings are a type of pony that feed on love..." So if you are going by what the writers say, Changelings are indeed a type of pony.

So... the concept of beauty for ponies is to be a horse...
Seems legit.

Wow, so true. I mean clearly changelings are an evolutionary offshoot of ponies, there's no other way they could share such a close body structure.

I suppose it depend on how you measure similarities. If we're sticking to how they appear in their animation style they just match up to closely for it to be such a coincident, at least in my view. Anything beyond that really falls into head cannon territory which is completely subjective.

...You didn't google convergent evolution did you? It means that two lifeforms who evolve in similar environments may look and behave similar, without those two lifeforms ever having contact to one another.

Yes I in fact did and was already vaguely familiar with it as world building discussion are an activity I very much enjoy and have been over similar subjects before.
I still disagree with your claim as in all examples, as soon as those creatures are above a certain size there were still significant enough conflicting details to tell there was a difference, if not in their general family but at least in species. Changelings and conventional ponies share far too much in shape and form to be such a biological coincidence so I personally conclude that they are an offshoot of the pony race, perhaps created by some magical incident the sort of which I hypothesise created other oddity creatures such as Manticors and Chimeras. This is just my own speculation from what I've seen in the show so if we haven't come to the same conclusion that's perfectly fine.
(Apologies if you receive this message multiple times. DeviantArt is being a tough glitchy for me at the moment.)

Actually, changelings and ponies are not that similar. Changelings (probably) lack the fur (it's hard to tell if they have fur. Hell, by all we know the ponies could be naked as well), have a different pose while flying, completely different teeth, a different kind of tail and mane, holes in their legs, a different kind of eyes... Actually I'm pertty certain they evolved from some sort of bug. We can of course count the similarities too.
Similar body shape
Similar ability to cast magic (Might only be Crysalis and only the magic she leeched from Shining Armor, we never saw normal changelings cast "ponymagic")
...
I'm stuck. Anything I missed? I mean, body shape is of course pretty important but neither their teeth nor their eyes nor their movement matches. If there was no magic in the world we are talking about I would even dare say that those two species are as similar as a stone and air. They exist in the same place and share some atoms, but that's it.
Of course, magic makes pretty much everything possible. We saw Twilight turn her friends and herself turn into beings that looked more different from ponies than changelings. The problem is, if one of us would go on and create a long probably well figured out version of the creation or evolution of the changelings the show could possibly come and screw it over with some really bad explanation.
Yes I'm talking about this shitty explanation that the Elements of Harmony came from a tree that stood somewhere and for some reason was strong enough to restrict Discords power. Explain, why the fuck did the ponies not just start living around the tree? I mean, Discords seeds only worked when the tree was considerably weakened and as the tree was still there (And not made of pink gelatin), I guess Discords magic would not work around it. And why is a tree stronger than the rulers of sun and moon together? Actually, why was the spirit of chaos this strong in a world where there is no natural chaos aside from a forest? "Deus ex shitty writing without explanation" if you ask me. I would love an explanation for why Discord is this strong or what is up with the "Crystal Heart" or where the tree came from with his convenient gemstones of infinite power. The current explanation is "because the writers wrote it this way"
PS: I only got your post once so dA did not fuck up.

I'm fairly sure fur is a more subjective detail, there are many fan works depicting them either way though I'll admit without is more popular. As for their flying, they are mostly seen hovering stationary in their limited screen time and their hovering pose isn't all that different from Rainbow Dash's aside from the fact they do it more frequently. In fact even comparing their fast flying poses with hers they match up. I would also debate their walking movement in general is still the same as that of ponies in the show.
Teeth are another debatable point as most mammals including equines shear the same arrangement of teeth including canines so having them evolve to grow as they have is not so farfetched.
If thestrals/nocktrals/bat ponies are a real thing that also compliments the possibility of their sharpened teeth and Chrysalis’s eyes. Some fan depiction do explain the abnormal eyes as second eyelids that all mammals at least did have at some time or as some magical effect but that comes down more to head cannon.
Other similarities include the positioning of the horn, mane and tail even if they have changed from a heir like material. (I personally imagine it as a material similar to the heirs of a feather, interlocking together to create a sheet of heir.)
And moving on, well I already do have a fairly well defined head cannon for changelings for the reason they feature heavily in a couple of stories I’m writing. And yes, I’m very much afraid the show will disrupt it or worse turn it into some sort of curse they need to be ‘cured’ of. Cue the magic of racism Trixie was so scared of.
Why did they not start living around the tree? Well evidently they did. Celestia and Luna built an entire castle on top of it. For whatever reason it was abandoned and now Twilight may very well be moving back in. Ultimately though it was needed for the sake of the plot to get rid of the Duse Ex Machima that the Elements of Harmony were.
Personally I don’t mind the holes in the back story so much as it just gives me opportunity to fill it in as I see fit. Like I said, I enjoy the world building.
(Also good to know things are in order technically.)
