"Then I met her horrified gaze, her big oval eyes reflecting my expression and a thrill of disgust and fear pulsed through me. I twisted at the last second and my fist slammed into the wall by Pearl’s head. Pain shot through my hand and all the way up to my shoulder, the lightning singing some of Pearl’s hair and leaving the stone wall cracked and blackened. I forgot how badly these two used to be enemies, I forgot that Pearl accidently slit Erica's throat and things nearly went all Warhammer40K in the household for a while.
It just goes to show how fucking far these two have come and how fucked and hopeless things looked at the start. The thing is, I've forgotten all these bad times, but this picture brings them back in a goddamn big way. And holy hell, this is bloody as fuck. This is way, way, way, way WAY harder to look at than any of your period stories or works. it's just so . . . blood seems different. There's pain but not just natural pain and agony and the sisterhood it brings; this is lonesome, hurtful, divided blood.
And the sick thing is, it's impossible to pin the blame in any meaningful way. I legit thought that Erica would kill Pearl when this happened. And oh god, my heart is racing as all the old memories come back to me. Thanks for the blast from the past

Pearl and Erica have come very far, yeah... this situation was good to use to demonstrate just HOW affected Erica gets by anger, and that she can lose it completely, too.

Erica's character growth has been small but measurable. Like in the old TV show the Tick, where despite its episodic nature eventualy the Tick learns to respect his roommate's credit cards and help with the chores in the house. It's not world shattering but it's deeply impacting for how real it is.
From admitting that her mom was abusive to teaching Connie about Periods, Erica's journey has been marked by a billion small changes that are taken together all believable and quite profound.
And I love her, I love how flawed she is and how screwed up in some ways.

well - lol - then you've got a problem right there. the only thing i could see to make Erica put herself through all that - take all those risks - is if someone she loves is in danger/held captive by some bad guys SOLDIER are fighting - or perhaps by SOLDIER themselves. say Peridot has given her a thing - something that suppresses her vocal powers, then she could join the ranks unnoticed, get the information she needs to find whoever's lost/kidnapped (maybe someone has even been killed and she needs to find who did it (lol whole subplot right there - someone kills Victoria, thinking it was Erica (since they're twins) and Erica sets out to get vengeance. she would too. even though their relationship is complicated, Erica would hunt down and personally dispatch anyone who killed her sister) 'My kin. Blood of my blood' and all that)
There you go - a reason for her to join SOLDIER. then when she does join, she might find some friends along the way, but her goal will be to find whoever or the killer. if there is a choice somewhere down the line - where she has to choose between rescuing who has been kidnapped and saving one of her squad, she'll be torn like fuck. But she'd probably save the squad member, since their life is actually in danger of ending right here right now. But if she squad member would be fine, if the choice is: go left, complete the SOLDIER mission, go right, rescue whoever - she will go right. And she would not stop until she found them and brought them home.
if the choice is let her squad member(s) die and get revenge on the killer, she will choose to spare the killer. otherwise that person is dead meat.

All right I think I'll go with blackmail but SOLDIER is divided up in ranks their is third class second class and fist class. Perhaps one of Erica's parents were blackmailed into making Erica join when she was a teenager I kind of want her to be SOLDIER first class because she would be able to help/mentor onyx and help take care of Steven
