As a complex young man, few understand Mercedes' intentions-- brash, impulsive, and bold. Coming from a family of three older brothers, he harbors thick skin and a hefty backbone. Stoic on most occasions, his mind is often filled with discerning thoughts about the world and peoples amongst him. Rarely will he share his others his more vulnerable side as he heeds to his stubborn logical mind. But when he does unveil the friendlier side of him, it will be through the actions over words. He holds friends, family, and passions close to his heart and often becomes defensive if anyone were to question his more endeared loved ones. Yet, wayward and aggressive, he has little tole tolerance for nonsense and values deliberation and hard work, even if it means getting a little dirty.
With companions, he could count all of them on a single hand. Being picky about who he can trust, he is withholding of his companionship to those who he believes deserves it and can keep his secrets.

B I O G R A P H Y
Born in Scotland, Mercedes was the youngest son of three older boys by the parents of Lincoln and Myrial Gillies. Mercedes father was a pureblood magician who left his school of magic to take care of a family after getting his partner at the time pregnant, Myrial. Lincoln was a boy with surmount potential, he was destined to be of greatness. But his family cast him away after carelessly impregnating a girl. Yet, he continued to study on his own and filled bookshelves with notes and discoveries until he and his wife built a shop where they resided. Mercedes mother, on the other hand, was a half-blood who was well adjusted to the muggle world in Scotland before meeting her husband. Together, the two of them had their eldest son unplanned and without the support of their parents. With all the children proceeding their eldest, they imposed a great deal of pressure to enroll in Hogwarts as their father never completed his studies. Subsequently, all four boys grew up aware of magic and often competed to see who would be the first to show signs of it. Though their magic came and went on random occasions Mercedes proved to be especially troublesome with his magical abilities as they would only spark during his tantrums. Additionally, growing up, Mercedes was a boy with a temper as fiery as his hair as all four brothers often fought amongst each other, each competing to see who would get into a magical school and who would falter. Behind the scenes, the fear stirred by the Second Witch trials influenced Mercedes mother to flee north of Scotland to protect her family, but his father refused to leave the shop. Instead, he demanded their family stay and use their magic as a form of defense, a reckless approach. Their adamant minds could not meet a compromise and thus, his parents separated, his father taking his magic and lessons with him and his mother, her four sons.
After the divorce Mercedes’ eldest brother received his acceptance into Hogwarts which erupted in a day of celebration for the family, but the boys began to question their abilities without the heed of their older brother and more importantly, their father. After the divorce, mention of their father was close to nothing. They knew nothing of his residence or whereabouts despite his shop, standing and in business but without him. Instead, the man of the house was a fellow in a salary suit. Rather than a father who would guide them along their magical journey, they were met with their muggleborn stepfather. Unlike their father, their stepfather prohibited their use of magic, finding it distasteful and reckless. He was a distinguished man who saw values that could aid an individual in muggle society instead of letting his sons experiment and pursue in magic. Of the three boys, Mercedes rebelled and constantly butt heads with his stepfather, a man who gave a bad impression on other muggles.
As a young boy, indignant in nature, he was headstrong and refused to have his opinions swayed. So when he finally learned about the history of magic and the Witch Trials he was not surprised to see why his stepfather had condemned his magic. If its kidnappings didn’t scare Mercedes, it made him feel separated from his classmates despite being in a school with other muggleborns. But it never inhibited his usage of magic as it was his only respite to find power, authority, and courage in his stringent household.
Inspired by his father, he continued to disobey his parents in order to pursue the magic his father had sought to teach his sons. Yet, he never found the chance to return to his home to find his father and learn the remainder of his lessons.
Despite this, at the age of eleven, Mercedes was the last of the remaining brothers to receive an invitation to Hogwarts. While close in age to the other boys, Mercedes was impatient and the last one in his family to leave home. His mother reassured him that his brothers would be back around the year to keep him company during the holidays. As the seasons changed, he saw all but his eldest brother after he turned thirteen. Like his father, he and his mother did not understand why he had stopped contacting the family, even through letters. However, with patience, his day finally came as an owl, with a face as bright as the moon, descended outside of Mercedes' bedroom window with a letter in its talon. Mercedes could recognize the wax stamp from a mile away as he frantically unlocked his window to share the good news. His mother clapped with joy and his stepfather seemed indifferent, looking off with dull eyes. Mercedes ignored the man's emotionless gesture to prepare for his departure. Before he left, his mother gave him one last gift, his father's journal. He questioned how his mother could pass on his journal to him of all brothers. Being the youngest and last of the boys to enter Hogwarts she hesitated to pass the lessons that hid inside his journal to his eldest brother as each proceeding son would need to heed his words just as much. As a way to reunite the brothers and give Mercedes a taste of leadership and responsibility, she bestowed his father's writings to him. Inside, his potion recipes, tricks, and advice scribbles across the worn pages in black ink. It was his most treasured possession and an important relic of his home.
PREVIOUS YEARS AT HOGWARTS
Mercedes can count all his companions on a single hand as he has found companionship in only a few students. However, he has made his reputation in school as a strict and stoic Gryffindor, reclusive but a dedicated magician. Despite being one of the harder working students in his class, he finds little interest in many subjects and extracurriculars. Additionally, he hoped to come to Hogwarts to reunite with his older brother only to see he has developed a circle of friends of his own and hold an air of superiority-- too much to mind Mercedes.
VIEWS ON THE THREAT OF THE MUGGLE WORLD
Mercedes' stance is selfishly fueled and with little knowledge of the bigger picture. Due to his experiences with his stepfather and his personality, he selfishly believes magicians and muggles would be better off in their own worlds. Despite inheriting muggle blood, he doesn't see muggles as any less. Rather, individuals with different values to which compromising such values between magical and muggles would result in unnecessary tension.
