Description Corpse Flower Dryads are a hybrid species that can come from the mating between a Floral Dryad and a Marsh Dryad. At first glance, you can see that they receive a good amount of traits from their Floral mother, seeing that they have the dress-like sheath around their legs and a blossoming head flower. While they may seem a bit plain in the color department, closer inspection will reveal to you brilliant violets and purples that are found on the insides of their frills and leaves. This closer look will also reveal to you what they got from their Marsh mother, though your nose will be one doing the discovery! Just like Marsh Dryads, these hybrids absolutely reek of rotted flesh, which gives them the name. The smell seems to emanate from special glands that line the inside of their head flower, dress and strange leafy cuffs. The other things they have received from this mother are the fang-like growths on their mouths and the long dripping tongue. While they may have the pretty look, vibrant colors and basic layout of a Floral, their behavior and hunting methods fit more with the Marsh. Their stench and sticky saliva are used for luring in and eating insects, which is a favorite delicacy of theirs. They too cover parts of their body with this goop to trap bugs, and then they will eagerly lick it up once it is coated in squirming flies.

While they come from two different parents, almost every Corpse Flower Dryad will be found outside of Floral Dryad settlements. Due to their odor and constant drooling, they would never be allowed in such an uptight place, so they tend to be found in the home towns of their Marsh mother. To me, I think it is a good thing, as who would ever want to live in such a miserable and fussy place? Since they do not have super crazy growths or differences to their anatomy like Sundew Dryads, they tend to function and act just like any other dryad. Just like you and me! Though, there is an odd thing that occurs with Corpse Flower Dryads, but it is more internal than external. It only shows itself when it comes to breeding, and it is the fact that Corpse Flower Dryads have really large gaps of time between blooms. For those not aware of dryad reproduction, "bloom" is referring to a period of time where a dryad's body can create pollen and receive it. For most dryads, it is an annual thing that occurs in spring. These hybrids still experience bloom in the spring, but it is not an annual thing for them. Depending on the individual, they may only go into bloom every five to ten years! No one is fully sure why they have such an odd cycle, but it is obvious it is a result of their hybrid nature. In the end, this odd change isn't all that harmful to them, unlike some issues other hybrids may experience. For those wishing to raise families, though, it requires a whole lot of planning and patience, as they are only going to get one shot at it for quite some time.

There is a bit of a misconception when it comes to these hybrids, though it is actually more aimed at their families. Since one of their mothers is a Floral Dryad, many assume that Corpse Flower Dryads are reviled by this parent. With a good chunk of Floral Dryads obsessed with cleanliness, beauty and manners, having an offspring that reeks of rotted flesh and constantly drools can seem problematic. So people take this info and assume that these hybrids are either abused by these mothers, or stay exclusively with their Marsh Dryad mother and never see the other parent. In actuality, this idea is pure myth. From all that I have seen and heard, Corpse Flower Dryads have good relations with their Floral mother (at least in this category, I can't assume every family is perfect). While some may find such a thing hard to believe, you have to remember that in order for this hybrid to even exist, the Floral Dryad has to have mated with a Marsh Dryad. If they are willing to have a relationship with one who has the same reek and excessive saliva, then clearly they are not obsessed with cleanliness and appearances like others. In fact, these couples do not exist at all in strict Floral communities, as they are more found in marsh settlements or villages of mixed dryad species. If a Floral Dryad is not bothered by filth and slime, enough to fall in love with a Marsh Dryad, then they clearly will be no part of such stuffy places. Such a choice may be a voluntary or involuntary one, as the Florals who are strict and uptight often do not tolerate a fellow sister that doesn't follow their ways to the letter. So in the end, they may have either escaped from these horrible societies or were physically thrown out of them. That is an experience I am familiar with, and I am not even a Floral Dryad! I mean you spill one inkwell and everyone starts screaming and forming angry mobs. It is ridiculous! I would argue my case to them if I wasn't barred from entering that town under punishment of death. Well, whatever! It certainly isn't the first death sentence I have received and it won't be the last!

-------------------------------------------------------

More dryads! I swear that any time I feel sad, I wind up making more cute plant creatures to make me feel better. The fact that I have so many species and subspecies of them may say something about my mental state, but any-hoo. This hybrid species is meant to replace the Giant Marsh Dryads I made a looooong time ago, and I wouldn't blame you for forgetting they existed because I totally forgot they existed as well! Looking back at them, they seemed rather plain, boring and didn't really click right for me, so I figured that they would work better with an update and a change to a hybrid species.

She gets in a lot of trouble, doesn't she?

Yes, yes she does. She is determined to study and explore pretty much anything that she can, and she tends to view most things as a challenge instead of a "no seriously do not go in there" sort of thing. Her desire to research every living thing also makes her a bit blind to other things. Yes, it would be awesome to study the hidden roosts of a Dragon Bat, but said roosts are located in a territory that is currently under the control of a warlord who really doesn't like outsiders or other people in general. Her upbeat attitude, strange life, career and experience also tends to make her a curiosity to others, and that can sometimes get her swept up with groups and people that turn out to not be so great.

In the end, the fact that Merrill spent time in a couple prisons across many kingdoms and lands means that she is following in her grandmother's rootsteps quite well.
