Description I actually think this turned out reasonably well.

Another archaeopteryx with its prey, a freshly killed young sinoconodont. This is another piece for my AP portfolio. Done with prismacolors and a chalk pastel background.

Absolutely stunning work! Excellent use of forest colours and shading, and good research into anatomy. Would I be able to use this image in an essay, with full reference of course?

It's beautiful! I love the pose, and the background, but its the little details in the feathers and scales that truly make this a wonder. It looks very realistic- I can't find anything to criticise.

Stunning, great colors
Chancing to sound really dummy, I wonder if sinoconodont it's the scientific name of the rat it killed...

I love how you used chalk Pastel for the background, it really gives it the added luminous qualtiy and blurred out-of-focus effect ...besides the fact that you're just plain talented

Nice scene here.
I like your greens and the way you represent the feathers, which look very detailed and realistic.
I suggest you work on the branches on the background and on then neck of the archaeopteryx, which somehow doesn't look well if compared with the body.

The sinoconodont is just beautiful.

I really love your shading and coloring technique, but I have some problems with the hand anatomy. When the wing feathers are preserved in fossils of maniraptors, they extend all the way to the last joint of the middle finger rather than stopping at the wrist.

I’m also not sure about the woodland environment that you’ve shown it inhabiting here. Archaeopteryx was found in Solnhofen quarry, and based on the other types of fossils found in this formation, the environment there was probably more similar to a chain of tropical islands in the time when Archaeopteryx lived.

I appreciate your critique. When I was drawing this I was going completely by memory without a reference, but I know in the future it'd be wise for me to use a skeleton to make sure my anatomy is correct.

As the for the forest, I tried to make the background purposely vague, but in retrospect it definitely looks way too piney. So yeah.

There's not enough blood on the little mouse thingy!
...Just kidding.

It's great. The feathers do look a little fur-like, and the position of the wing on the right looks a little weird, but those are just tiny quibbles.
I love the contrast of the textures in the foreground and background - it seems soft with the beams of light and tree, where as the dinosaur is very crisp and stands out wonderfully. Oh, and did I meantion those talons are amazing?

You know, I never really thought that Archaeopteryces resembled birds that closely, but rather were very lizardlike.
