When I first thought of spinning the yarn as simply singles I was actually a bit concerned about the yarn itself being too fragile. Not sure if you know about this but a yarn is much stronger dependent upon how many singles make up the ply of the yarn. Usually the stuff you get at the store has several plys. I've never just kept my yarn in singles so it was quite a leap of faith in hopes that the shawl would knit up and hold together properly. I love it and am so thankful I kept it that way... without it being singles there wouldn't be the neat color transitions it'd be a lot more uniform.
