Description The fiber I used to knit this shawl was spun by me on my Wee Peggy out of an 8 oz blend of Alpaca, Merino, and Silk dyed by Woolgatherings on Etsy .

I started spinning the wool on August 17th 2011 and finished spinning it on August 20th 2011. Knitting began on August 21st but realized on September 17th I made a mistake so far back that I had to frog it completely and restarted. It was finished on October 14th.

That is a wonderful pattern of color! What was the hardest part for you during the whole process?

Honestly I don't think I could say there was a hardest part. I did make a mistake early on and didn't realize it till it was 25% done. It was a simple mistake but unfortunately with where the mistake was and how far back it was, it was not fixable without restarting the knitting completely.

So it is more time consuming than anything else really, but that looks like a really nice and productive hobby to do. Sounds pretty fun too

I find it's relaxing! The spinning part I can do while watching shows the knitting part requires a bit more paying attention though.

I don't see too many people these days spinning their own yarn! Then making a beautiful shawl out of it!

You'd be surprised there's a lot of people out there spinning their own yarn even dyeing wool themselves and spinning from it. I purchase all my wool off of Etsy two of the people I buy from are actually locals for me. It's a fun and relaxing hobby

I love crafting, but because I'm discalculate, knitting and crocheting were always beyond my reach. I do use a lot of yard, though in crafts and plastic canvas projects. It honestly never crossed my mind to spin and dye my own yarn. What a good idea, though, as there have been times I spent hours searching for just the right color

this is incredible! i've been trying to look into spinning but, alas, the life of a student does not allot time for that.

I was lucky to be part of the first fiber arts class taught at the university I went to. Was a lot of fun and learned a lot

Beautiful! Do you start at the neck and work to the outer edge, or start at the outer edge and work to the neck?

For this pattern you start at the top and work your way down so the amount of stitches continues to increase
