If something this blanketed and condensed can even be considered legitimate history anymore...America turned toward isolationism after World War I partly because everyone was so freaked about how awful the war was and how high the war casualties were. This led America to choose not to join the League of Nations even though President Wilson had proposed the idea of the League in the first place. They didn't want to get caught up in deadly European affairs again.
To clarify:
Trench warfare reigned during World War I and, to put it bluntly, it SUCKED. Malnutrition was so bad men would fight each other for lice to eat so they could get the extra protein. Gangrene ran rampant. Yes, there are reports of carrier pigeons being eaten. And men were so desperate to survive the enemies' merciless hail of bullets during trench warfare that they loaded themselves down with very odd good-luck charms... Like magical dead rats.

That is true, don't forget that the original plan Wilson proposed was altered by the other nations, as is custom. By the time it was complete, the plan had been transformed to a state the U.S. couldn't accept. Several of the clauses went against the U.S. Constitution.

This was some of the reason but it was also cuz the americans were pissed at how unfair the treaty of versailles was to Germany, we even warned them the unfair treatment would just lead to more problems but did they listen, No. Sorry, its just I love history and I recently learned this so yeah. Any-who I love this so much and I just now remembered its condensed, the point is it was amazing.

I love the flash back, America is still so young compared to England and France. He have not have so many wars that his fathers. Obviously the WWI was a traumatic experience for him. Even for France and England it was hard so for America....
But America is really England's son. He had a splendid isolation phase too.
