Freyja is known by many as the Norse goddess of love, fertility, war, wyrd (fate) and death, and in some interpretations, the preeminent Valkyrie. What isn't often mentioned, though, is her status as a dawn Goddess and solar deity.

Midsumor (Midsummer) traditionally is celebrated just after the summer solstice, a celebration of fertility and new marriage, seasonal cycles, both literal and metaphorical, and of the sun, phallus which penetrates the earth, in it's most ascendant phase. It's an great time to gather one's loved ones and stack wood and other flammable materials around a scaffold of the bones of one's enemies, upon which one can throw witches, transgressors and other such ne'er-do-wells - a whole lot of fun for the whole family. It's also supposedly the source of the term "bonfire", literally bone fire.
