This is the first debut appearance of the master to Zenith, Lavender, Aiden and the first Silver-Eyes.
His name is simply a random mash-up.
Master Zulaph is a descendant of a survivor of a losing Puritan Faction from the Keyblade Wars, hence the Keyblade Inheritence Ceremony lies thin and him being one of the few remaining Masters.
His Keyblade is the Defense Down;[link] . Themed after the Gaila manta ray from Final Fantasy 8 notorious for the MELTDOWN Magic.

7 years prior, he had Lavy, Aiden and the 1st Silver-Eyes; Zenislev as his pupils, and him being one of the Arch Knights of the High Council, where they are seen as valuable assets for investigating the Worlds due to their familiarity with the Keyblade.
After Zenislev died in a suicide mission,Zulaph quit the High Council's Order and swore to protect his future pupils from corruption.
Zulaph is happily married to his fiancee and now a father to a 4 year-old girl. At that time too he then took Zenith,a 'dead ringer' under his wing, hoping that this time he'll raise him not as a mere soldier, but a virtuous hero.

Being a family man, he's quite laid back but at the same time a stern teacher when tutoring. After he renounced his vow against the High Council for 'killing' his star pupil, they view him as nothing more than a coward and a black sheep.
Nevertheless, he's already happy settling down with the love of his life.
His personality concept is supposed to be a figment of Maes Hughes from Fullmetal Alchemist and Richard Castle from the TV series 'CASTLE', hence his curiosity for mysteries.
Now you know how did that Sherlock Holmes frenzy started spreading to the others.(THE PIPE ON HIS HAND!)
When he takes apprentices under his wing, he expects them to not just simply follow his footsteps, but to mark their own identity before they in turn pass down their mastery to future disciples.
Starting with asking his pupils to design their own hypothetical Keyblades on what motifs they possibly represent within their Hearts.
Lavender = Butterfly
Aiden = Lotus
Zenith = Unicorn
This is for his pupils to never forget what are they standing up for throughout their lives.

Master Zulaph specializes in melee combat. As a Puritan Knight, he gains access to Spear Clusters(pictured on the left).
What makes him particularly dangerous is him possessing a rare spell; Meltdown.
In Final Fantasy 8 terminology, Meltdown is a Status-type magic that practically knocks down a target's vitality/defense to 0 in a certain amount of time. In short, enemies being DEFENSELESS for a short amount of time.
Zulaph took years and years to perfect the skill, while he doesn't possess a high STR Keyblade, he compensates with combos.

Whew, another gosh dang long description of an Over Crosser.
This is actually the first time I drew him despite mentioning his name several times already.
The reason for his character concept is evidence to how there could be descendants of the Keyblade War survivors and a proof Zenith and his sisters did receive intensive training.
