Slightly modified origin for Earth's Mightiest Heroes in this alternate Marvel Universe.

Begins with Iron Man : Tony Stark learns the fact from his access to certain military contacts that the creature called the Hulk is actually scientist Bruce Banner, who had been contracted by Tony’s father, Howard, several months prior to his death, to develop the Gamma Bomb when the company still produced weapons for the military, and that the accident he was involved in with the Gamma Bomb during the initial test, resulted in Banner becoming the Hulk. Having only learned of his father’s involvement in the Gamma Bomb Project a few months earlier prior to this revelation and feeling that Stark Industries has some responsibility in the circumstances that led to the creation of the Hulk, Stark determines to try to find a way to cure Banner of being the Hulk.

Stark locates Betty Ross due to her being a member of the Gamma Bomb project as well as her rumored association with Banner since his transformation and speaking with her she informs him that Banner had come close to a possible cure to his transformations, the Gamma Energy Siphon designed by fellow radiation expert Leonard Samson. But Samson's prototype lacked the necessary power and components to make it viable upon it's attempted use on Banner, resulting in Samson himself accidently gaining gamma spawned abilities. Stark finds out the specifics for creating the Gamma Siphon then sets about creating a larger and more powerful version of the Gamma Siphon, then has Betty Ross brought to Stark Enterprises to supervise operation of the Gamma Siphon while Stark plans to go to New Mexico as Iron Man to locate Banner, since the Hulk  has been report being seen back in the New Mexico desert area near the former location of the now abandoned Gamma Base, and bring him back to New York in order to use the new updated Gamma Siphon to affect a cure.

Using a sophisticated gamma radiation detector that he had incorporated into his armor, Iron Man is able to locate Banner in his secret underground lab hideout that he has created for himself as his “home” and attempts to explain to him why he has sought him out. But a leery Banner believes that Iron Man may be in league with General Ross and his Hulkbusters seeking his capture, especially when a Hulkbuster squad, who observed & tracked Iron Man's appearance in the area, arrive near the location of Banners secret hideout.  This leads to Banner transforming into the Hulk and attacking Iron Man whom he is now convinced is in league with the military.

After a tremendous battle with the Hulk that has Iron Man just barely holding his own with the living powerhouse, Stark nearly depletes his armor's power reserves as he defeats the Hulk, who is rendered unconscious by Iron Man’s use of a gamma energy boosted attack and has reverted back to Bruce Banner. Iron Man quickly takes Banner away from the scene before General Ross and his military contingent can collect Banner and on to Stark Enterprise's headquarters where Betty is waiting with Stark Enterprises technicians to put the Gamma Siphon to use and hopefully drain the Gamma energy from Banner's body to cure him of his monstrous transformations.

Once back at Stark Enterprises HQ in New York a now conscious Bruce Banner (now fully believing Tony Stark is indeed attempting to cure him) Betty Ross, Stark himself and Stark technicians complete last minute checks and preparations to the new Gamma Siphon before Banner is to be subjected to the machine in the attempt to cure him.

However, the Asgardian lord of mischief, Loki has learned of the Hulk/ Banner’s presence in the area and immediately begins planning a way to use the Hulk’s power as a weapon against his hated half brother, the Asgardian thunder god Thor. With the Gamma Siphon inspection complete, Banner is set to attempt the energy siphoning process that will hopefully cure him. Banner is placed within a holding chamber that will filter and capture the siphoned gamma energy and Betty Ross initiates the process.

Midway through the process Loki makes his move after locating Banner and teleporting into the Siphon chamber he mystically merges himself with Banner, virtually taking possession of him. He then proceeds to uses his mystic abilities to trigger Banner's transformation into the Hulk. The out put of gamma radiation from the transformation combined with the amount of mystical energies being employed by Loki to control Banner's Gamma form cause the Gamma Siphon to overload and explode, rendering Ross, Stark & the Stark technicians who were aiding in monitoring and operating the Siphon's control systems, unconscious from the concussive backlash of the Siphon explosion. Stark special security teams on guard near the lab where in the siphon process was under way make an attempt to subdue the Hulk, but their efforts are easily pushed aside thanks to Loki mystically amplifying the Hulk’s already considerable strength, and the Hulk launches himself through the roof of the Stark Enterprises lab facilities by the guidance of Loki in a search to find and destroy Thor.

Mystically homing in on the location of Thor, who has just a short time earlier finished a battle with the Absorbing Man  (who himself was coerced into fighting Thor by Loki)  and is awaiting the arrival of authorities to take away the defeated villain, the Loki possessed Hulk lands and engages Thor in a no holds barred modern battle of titans through New York City that threatens the lives of the city's citizens & over all security of the city itself.

With the Fantastic Four in the Negative Zone at the time, scientist & part time adventurer Hank Pym and his wife Janet watch the live televised news reports of the battle between Thor and the Hulk, and decide they will lend the god of thunder a hand in stopping the Hulk, whom every one considers to be on one of his rumored rampages of destruction, in their costumed identities of the Yellowjacket and the Wasp. Pym also contacts his friend Bill Foster and persuades him to lend aid as Giant Man since he has taken over the identity since Pym gave up the identity for his current Yellowjacket identity.

At around that same moment, Tony Stark has regained consciousness from the explosion of the Gamma Siphon, and after insuring all is well after the explosion and the Hulk’s roof shattering departure from Stark Enterprises, dons his now fully recharged Iron Man armor and goes in pursuit of the Hulk after learning of his battle with Thor in the heart of the city, from breaking news reports. Meanwhile Nick Fury at S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters has also been made aware of the battle between the Hulk & Thor leading to his ordering S.H.I.E.L.D. heavy weapons tactical squads to prepare to go in to help contain the situation before it can escalate any further and lives are actually loss with Captain America himself volunteering to go in to render aid as needed and fully access the situation prior to the arrival of the S.H.I.E.L.D. tactical squads.

The heroes all converge at the battle site with all believing the Hulk is on a rampage  thus attempting to stop him, but only slows his attack on Thor and minimize the damage that is being caused. But Loki’s control over the Hulk starts to lapse due to strain from the physical battle and his own will being tested by the Hulk himself attempting to reassert his own will upon his body. The battle on two fronts finally takes its toll on Loki and he is forced to vacate the Hulk’s body. With his presence as the true architect of the Hulk’s rampage revealed, the Hulk and the assembled heroes turn their attention towards the evil god of mischief, whose mystic energies are weaken from his mental and physical battles while in the Hulk's body and he is force to cut his losses and flee swearing vengeance against all parties involved in the disruption of what he was sure was his step brother’s destruction. After Loki's departure, the other heroes are cautiously receptive to the now reasonable & non possessed Hulk, after Iron Man fills in the details of events prior to Loki's possessing of the Hulk.

The heroes come to realize the advantage of unity and teamwork and pledge themselves to an alliance in times of need where a single hero cannot prevail, and even agree that the Hulk could have a place among them to help clear his tarnished image and reputation, thus was the beginning of the group that would be dubbed the Avengers.

The Hulk plays an active role as an Avenger in the teams first two years of existence in this alternate universe, but decides to leave the team in order to stop Thunderbolt Ross, who had allied himself with powerful politician Dell Russ (a covert Hydra operative implanted into the government by the Red Skull) and their combined efforts to hinder and destroy the Avengers due to the Hulk's presence on the team.
