Description Dust rains down on a rural shed during today's massive dust storm that covered Sydney and much of NSW, Australia.

I love a sunburnt country but waking up to an ominous red glow filtering through the curtains puts the wind up me. Hearing an accompanying howling westerly, fearing the worst, and jumping out of bed quicker than the Newcastle earthquake my senses were relieved to be full of dust and not bushfire smoke!

The view from my veranda.

Just saw a clip of this on CNN from Sydney. It looks like something I lived through in Kuwait, but visibility was only about five feet in front of you! I was hacking up crap for days afterwards.

I know what you mean. We're used to getting those out west (all the bushies are probably wondering what the fuss is about in the city!) but they rarely make it over the ranges to the coast.

Here's a [link] to a video of yesterday's dust storm hitting Broken Hill, over 700 miles west of Sydney. It was a doozer!

Cheers mate. The sunrise would've been brilliant to see. I need to work on doing more allnighters so I see more of them!

Well I could get used to the colour but not the taste of it in my mouth, the last time I had that red dust up my nose was up Dubbo way quite a few years ago now.

I'm used to a bit of dust out here but yeah, reminds me... I better disconnect the guttering from the water tanks before it rains. Don't want to be drinking it too!

I reckon the last big dust storm I saw like this was Victoria in the early eighties.

Still, it's as good an excuse as any to wash the dust down!
