Description F-84F 52-6782 marked as 52-5779 of the USAF Thunderbids in the air park at Luke AFB.

The Thunderbirds were originally formed at Luke AFB and stayed there from their inception in June 1953 until the team moved to Nellis AFB in 1956 with the advent of the F-100C.

The Thunderbirds only operated the F-84F in the 1955 show season.

Nice shot. From what I understand, the F-84, in all it's variants, lived up to the "thunder" portion of its name.

I have read about this acft's propensity to be a runway hog. It was said if you could build a long enough runway, Republic would build a jet that used every inch of it for takeoff!

If you can find a book "Stranger to the Ground" by Dick Bach (of Jonathon Livingston Seagull fame), I recommend you read it. It tells of his experiences as an F-84F pilot.

I can believe that. I read an excerpt from it in a book I got (and still have) as a kid.
