Anuvina's New Year is not set on a specific date as ours is. The New Year is set after the only day where the Living Spirits are mating, creating a massive aurora borealis worldwide. Of course, the Living Spirits only mate at night so the ones on the other side of the planet get their New Year for around one to three hours later.

The New Light and the end of the year happens at the start of Spring.

But because Anuvina's population sets their New Year after the Living Spirits matin ritual; the year can be shorter or longer than the year before. The way the population knows the New year is close is by keeping an eye on the popular buildings on Anuvina, which all have Living Spirits inside of them. At the New light, these buildings are at risk of burglary, so it is common that people stay close to their houses or hire extra security since the Living Spirt is not around for a whole night to protect the building which they call home. The New Light is a vulnerable time for the Living Spirits, which is undoubtedly also the reason to why the New Light only lasts for a few hours.

Bigger buildings like the Guardians Headquarters, Needt of Night, the Fantaesser mansion and Seeft of Sun glows up about one week before the New Light happens.
It is a short time to prepare for shop owners to have things in stock but usually shops stock up on 'fairy lights' almost a whole month before the event is said to start.
It is a worldwide tradition to decorate ones house, trees and other objects with colorful fairy lights. It is also normal that people celebrate the whole week while Seeft of Sun is glowing, which is the sign that the Living Spirit residing inside is preparing itself for the mating ritual. The celebrations is not about hard-partying, but more spending quality time with friends and family. it is tradition to be dressed in either colorful clothing, glowing jewelry or glow in the dark face paint. Big parties do happen but they are rare. Usually people will spend the New Light in smaller groups, enjoying light but very delicious dishes while reminiscing of the year that has passed.
