Milestones - 20" x 28" - July 2012 - WatercolourI accepted a challenge to paint a current self-portrait, to show myself 'where I am now' - and I rarely back down on a challenge! This was one of the hardest paintings I've done to date, and the concept changed many times over. I tried to simplify it enough, with the hidden zodiac symbols of the kids in the rocks (did you see them when you first looked at the painting?) symbolizing the reason I stopped painting for 15 years, to the overturned jars of the three primary colours, spilling life back into me, representing my return to painting... I was drowning without art, but have once again resurfaced, so to speak. That's it... that's life... that's me

The lady of the lake rises again,15 years is a long time but with kids I imagine it really didn't seem that long! Great work,tough challenge.

Yes... it was rough, and I beat myself up about it for the duration, but I just couldn't fathom it, while raising my three beautiful children. In the interim, I settled for crafting... scrapbooking, tole painting, beading, mosaics, miniatures... you name it, I tried it... anything that could have been easily dropped on a whim, should the kids had needed me... something I couldn't imagine doing while painting. But, I am back at it, with a vengeance, and even more passionate about it than ever, and won't ever stopped again
