Description I've heard it all.

"He's a child abuser."

"Him "loving" Lily doesn't justify anything."

"He's the "nice guy" trope who thinks he's entitled to the woman just because he supposedly cared about her."

"Horribly written character with potential."

"Deserved everything he got."

"An awful child-bully who's glorified as a hero."

"Harry should've named his son after someone actually special to him."

The thing of it is...
It's all true.
Snape had a mass amount of potential, but was written very tragically and, unfortunately, got recognition that he only half-deserved.
The reason so many people love him is, I think, because of the movies.
That's why I love him, personally.
Bobdammit, Alan...

I tend to lean more towards movie versions of stories where I can play fast and loose with canon and ignore big portions of the books.
Is that wrong?
I don't think so.
I think it's all valid, and it's all about what makes us happy as long as we're crediting the original story artist.
Had I simply read the books I would've probably despised Snape on some level, but the movie flushed out a lot of his more hate-worthy traits while Alan Rickman played him as a more lovable and oddly sympathetic character.
...
And made him weirdly sexy.
I will forever be simultaneously grateful to and never be able to forgive that man
I miss him.

As valid as every point made against Snape is, it doesn't stop me from loving him.
After about a decade of adoring this character, and falling in love with Alan because of it (and him becoming my favorite actor of all time for many reasons), I can't just let him go.
I loved him in an innocent way, I didn't understand the depth of his wrong-doing.
Blinded by ignorance and fangirl love, I clung to him, and i'm not ashamed of that.
Severus Snape changed the way I draw and look at fandom as a whole.
I have entire sketchbooks from High School filled front to back with drawing of him and almost him exclusively.
With him I learned SO much artistically, and during that time I used a unique marker-based style to do it.
Maybe someday i'll share my work more extensively, like in a YouTube series or something.
But for now, I just wanna get this off my chest.

I love him, and while I do concede the truth, i'm not going to let it ruin this for me.
I will let it make me humble and be more careful so as not to feed directly into the pool of long-standing bad tropes and mis-branded characters.
Because the lovely world of fiction exists, I know I can simply invoke AU's, head canons, and ultimately simplify the stories I love to better match the scenarios that work for me.
It would be different if this was a character I simply liked from a distance, but I have years of adoration and affection under my belt for this one.
He didn't rape anyone and he wasn't a pedophile, so fuck it.

Here's my head canon for him that I made not long ago.
Maybe someday i'll improve upon it, but for now it's kinda casual.
Just felt like doing some art is all.

It's kinda pointless for me to be talking about this again, I think I just got a little defeated-feeling because yesterday it seemed like the whole world was just taking a collective ten-trillion-ton shit on things I love no matter where I looked, so it's left me kinda sore.
From now on if I draw him imma just shut up and link the head canon, i'm over it
Take it or leave it.~

The raven is a sticker from PicsArt that I edited, and the ball above him is his soul.
It's cracked and missing a piece from when he killed Dumbledore.

Enjoy ^_^
