Description Derwent graphic pencils, HB,B,2B,4B&8B, on A3 Winsor & Newton smooth paper.

I kept seeing all these amazing graphite pictures of water around DA, and I had to have a go. Reference was from an ad in a brochure, but the photo is googable all over the web.

Thank you, glad you like it! Yes they can but I find faces and hair even harder!

"googable"?  Love it!  My second charcoals class the evil instructor made a grouping with a clear glass vase in it.  I think the look on my face made her a bit nervous!  Excellent job - captured beautifully.

Thank you! I know what you mean. I've had a couple of goes trying to draw water with colour pencil, and not been very successful. This was the first water piece I've done that I've been pleased with. I think it's because doing it in graphite forced me to look really hard at the value scale, you know the range of dark to light.

this is a very beautiful work, I usually fail at trying to draw something that does not apply to rules of logic, therefore, congrats for a job well done. I wonder how much time this had taken you to draw...

Thank you I really appreciate your comments. This took about 15 hours or so. I find it hard to judge because I don't have a lot of free time, and I tend to draw in bits and pieces.

Wow! A surprising amount of order in this very accurate depiction. I always thought of moving water as chaotic.

Thanks, I know what you mean. I love photos of water in mid-motion. It's like when the interaction of gravity on fluid is caught in that fragment of time, order is imposed on chaos.
