Description My first attempt at creating a realistic looking rock from polymer clay....it's smooshable!

Inspired by artists Jiyuseki (Hirotoshi Ito) and José Manuel Castro López who work with actual stone to create soft looking sculptures....a far more impressive feat!

Materials used:

-FIMO and Sculpey brands of polymer clay

If I hadn't known it was raw clay, I would've thought it was baked. Well done!

If it's okay to ask...how did you get your clay to stay pliable?  I ask because I'm just starting with polymer clay, and would like to make custom heads to put on Barbies.  (Plus doll boots and shoes with some give)

I condition it a whole bunch before sculpting by just working it with my hands

And it stays nice and squishy once you bake it?

This one I hadn't baked, just wanted to give the illusion of raw clay as "stone"

Ahhh, okay - do you know if there's a way to keep it slightly squishy AFTER baking?

sorry for butting in but you should really look into silicone casting if you want to make a flexible cured object : )

I was thinking of it, but I'm worried it might be TOO flexible.  Granted, I'm going off of seeing silicon molds, dunno if there's a way to make stuff harder.

I think maybe baking for less time but I'm not sure the clay would bounce back sadly!

I do like sugarcharmshop's method of making mini squishables: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iqyv68…
