Description A rather long suffering requester asked for this piece months ago, and I only finished it recently: a drawing of Leia Solo as a Jedi Knight. In the Extended Universe timeline, this would put it somewhere between the Dark Nest Trilogy and the Legacy of the Force series of books, after Master Saba Sebatyne aides her in completion of her training. As I'm still learning figure drawing, I took advantage of the awesome 's stock library, here at dA--if you've never checked out her gallery, take a look--the quality of the photography, settings, poses and costumes is amazing!

2H, 3H, H, HB, 2B, 3B and 4B graphite pencils on smooth Bristol/illustration board (and some plain paper Kleenex and tortillons for smoothing/blending).

As usual, George Lucas owns all things SW...and I hope he doesn't mind me playing around in his universe!

Thanks so much!  I had read the Dark Nest trilogy of books and was really excited to see Leia finally finishing formal training; when the Legacy of the Force novels began, she was a full Knight, and I wanted to draw her as one.  I'm so glad you like it--thank you for taking time to look and comment, and most especially for the !  Much appreciated!

I love her lightsaber! Is it odd that my mind thinks it to be bright? It must be your lovely background. I love it!

Yes, her lightsaber is throwing a lot of light--it's kind of metaphoric for the moment I was trying to illustrate: she was confronting her errant eldest son as he was descending into Sith-hood...while she was standing in the Light... So glad you like it--I really appreciated the authors taking Leia fully into her Jedi heritage and Knighthood, and wanted to draw her as the full Jedi Knight she is now. Many thanks for the added !

"the first link is broken."

GAH-- may have replaced or deleted the reference image--her stock portfolio is still AWESOME, though--she has some of the prettiest costumes, which she creates herself--lots of different poses and settings. The one I used for this was really beautiful--she was holding a long sword, just this way... Thanks for taking time to point out the problem link, tho--it's appreciated!

no problem. It's one thing that's always bothered me, when people don't report broken links. Makes browsing soooo much more annoying for the rest of us.

Princess Leia finally as a Jedi Knight!!! It probably can't get any cooler than this lol. I LOVE it. The shading looks great, and her pose is so "majestic", she truly looks like a queen.

FAVE!

"her pose is so "majestic", she truly looks like a queen."

Aw, thanks! And since she IS a Princess, I suppose she would have a regal bearing, even while wielding a lightsaber!

I was excited by this also--it was something I longed for from the moment we learned she was Luke's twin sister. It was pure delight to "watch" it happen in the Dark Nest Trilogy (...even if that WAS one of the weirdest story arcs in the Extended Universe... **shaking head**)--especially when it was one of my favorite Jedi Masters, Saba Sebatyne, who finished training her to Knighthood.

I'm so glad you like this one, and very much appreciate the ! Thank you!

I really enjoy your work. The tone and shading is superb and the concepts are original yet still canon. I'm assuming you use charcoal?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FalconFan In reply to DarthSkyGirl [2009-04-23 14:37:18 +0000 UTC]

"I'm assuming you use charcoal?"

No, this is all done in graphite pencils, some mechanical (with replaceable leads) and some classic (wooden pencils), in different levels of hardness--I use the harder pencils to lightly rough in, and the softer, darker leads to shade and finish. I've never been much good with charcoal--far too messy for me, though I do love the depth of tone it can provide; I've thought about trying ebony pencils, as they're supposed to be a bit easier to use than charcoal...

I'm glad you like this--it's an image not everyone can resonate with: the Princess, finally doffing her other personas and taking up the robes of a full Jedi Knight. I loved reading about it, and when this request came in, I had already been thinking about doing it--this was the result! Thank you for the kind comments, and for the --it's much appreciated!

Hmmm...that's interesting. I've been experimenting with different mediums myself. I do believe that graphite is one of my favorites. It's rather easier to use .

Thank you so much! This was originally done as a request, but was also something I had been itching to draw: Leia, at long last a full Jedi Knight. I kept hoping she would complete her training, and she finally did--so of course I had to portray her in that hard-earned role! So glad you like this, and I very much appreciate the !

Thank you kindly! I'm really glad so many people liked this piece--it's hard sometimes, I think, for fans to accept her as a Jedi Knight, though I always knew she would eventually undertake that journey and achieve that status(it's in her genes, after all! ). Thanks for having a look and for the kind words!

Thanks--I'm so glad you like it! I always loved the idea of Leia finally completing her Jedi training and becoming a full-fledged Knight, and I was happy to read that it came about in the Dark Nest Trilogy of novels (...although that was one of the best things about that rather strange series of books...). I always knew she'd be a kick-@$$ Jedi, and she proved to be so, which inspired this drawing! Thanks again for the kind words!

Many thanks for the comment and the ! As to who she's looking at, I was thinking about a recent book in the SW Extended Universe--one where her eldest son, falling to the Dark Side, has a dream about her coming to kill him... It was this dream I thought of when putting this one together: Leia, dressed in light-colored Jedi robes, weapon lit--determined and steely, as we've so often seen her...determined to do what is right, no matter the cost to her... I'm glad you like the piece, and very much appreciate the visit, the comments and the !

I've always thought Leia being a politician is a huge waste - A Skywalker not using her Force powers?
I'd really enjoy seeing more depictions of Jedi Solo, even in a more action-like pose!

This piece was actually a request from another SW fan--but it was also something I'd been meaning to do after reading the "Dark Nest" books; I've ALWAYS wanted Leia to do her "Jedi thang," and it was so great to read about that! "i love this if only it was true"

It IS true--in the Star Wars Extended Universe, anyway! In the novel trilogy "Star Wars: The Dark Nest," Leia finally undertakes her Jedi training; it was really one of the only things I liked about those books! She asked Jedi Master Saba Sebatyne, a Barabel Jedi in Luke Skywalker's Jedi Order, to finish her training for her--Saba agreed, and by the end of that trilogy, she was properly Knighted! What fun, to see her kicking some serious @$$ with her Jedi skills! So glad you like it! Thanks for looking!

Thank you so much! About the only thing I liked about the Dark Nest Trilogy of books was that Leia finally undertook formal Jedi training, under Master Saba Sebatyne (who, I imagine, would probably be about the toughest Master in the Order! AAACK!!)--by the end, she was a full Knight, and for me, it was a wonderful moment--thus this drawing! And you're welcome! Would you recommend the Dark Nest Trilogy then? The only post-original Star Wars book I've read is The Courtship of Princess Leia, and that was years ago! I think I'm overdo for a re-reading Are there any other Star Wars books you'd recommend?

"Would you recommend the Dark Nest Trilogy then?"

I don't know if I'd RECOMMEND them, mostly because they're so...strange...as far as most of the other characters go--the Thrawn Trilogy, by Timothy Zahn, is a wonderful series of books (most of us Star Wars Extended Universe fans love those!), and the New Jedi Order series of novels was pretty good (some character "butchering" here and there--and some major and very sad character deaths--but over all a decent series to read, IMHO). I'd recommend those, if you're looking for some good SW EU books! Sorry about the double post here, lol--"fat finger syndrome!" LOL! Thank you again!
