A bit of Prisoner of Azkaban fanart. This scene didn't happen in the movie, but it did in the book. (Unless I remember incorrectly... feel free to argue.)I spent waaayyy too long on this. Pencil sketch on cardstock took like 3 hours, mostly because of all the wrinkles and Harry's hair, and because I kept fixing Harry's nose and mouth, which are still stupid and wrong-looking. Then the CG (Photoshop7+tablet) took forever because I was trying to be more painterly and detailed. Then I couldn't decide which version looked the best, and I had 2 good artist friends pushing me in opposite directions. But in the end, I was persuaded to keep my original vision: to make it look like the movie: all gray and depressing.
No one commissioned this, it's just for fun. I guess it took a total of 18 or 19 hours (yes... that long. Damnit.)
I should note that some of the shadows are wrong because I started this pic with the intention of having a single light source (the moon), but in the end I was persuaded (
) to put the 'soul' orb in. It kinda makes some of the shadows wrong... but eh, it was past flattening at that point, and I didn't want to rework the lighting entirely. It is what it is.I'll also be getting prints of it made (not through DeviantPrints), if you want one, send me a note.

yah... good drawings always take too long. but it is so gratfying when you finish them and gets pleased with the result. Even if it isnt´great. what´s not the case here. Don´t you bother about Harry´s mouth or nose, they are great. ¬¬ XD and the hands! and the Hair!! wow. I really need to learn how to use the photoshop.¬¬ lazy me. XD

The lighting's good and the expression nice. Seems pretty interesting to me for the hair and such but the Dementor's hands -they're really good. It looks brilliant. ^^

Sublime; especially the dark tones and the atmosphere they create.
The nose only looks wrong because of it's slope. Positioning is fine.
Otherwise the picture is wondrous.

I really love the overall atmosphere of this picture. The Dementor usually creates overwhelming sense of fear and you blantly drew that. His pose, the dementors hands, and his soul hovering in mid-air clearly shows that.
Also, the gloomlyness of this whole picture creates a sense of woe and worry. As well as what I've said previously, the light source is absolutely amazing. It shows the feeling and life that his soul turely holds. Excellent piece of artwork,

Very awesome, yes I remember that happening in the book, not necissarily him having his arms up to hold it back....but i'll be damned if i'm gonna re-read Prisoner of Azkaban a third time to find out...something aboot those potter books never sticks. ><
