Wow this is great! I adore your highlights and the sand looks all freshly raked and smooth~ Your anatomy is also pretty darn spot on and i love how you did the mane and tail ^^ My one "complaint" is that in the future you may want to look into how cloth reflects light and how it folds. For instance, there would very likely be crease in the boot in certain areas and the jacket/ pant would as well at the elbow/knee joint 
Other then that try to increase the contrast a bit; you do very very well with shading/highlighting but you should try and use a pure white(or more noticeably lighter color) and pure black (or a just more noticeably darker color) at a few select points to really put the highlights and shadows out. For instance places like the corner of the horses mouth(line of the mouth), strands in the tail, along the line of the belly (along where the legs meet), and alongside soem of the tack would all me good areas for some dark color. Similarily, places like the boot, hip, hat, tack, hooves and other places where there is already a highlight present would really benefit from a touch of a brighter color (not covering the previous highlight color just coving a bit of it to really enhance the highlight idea).
I hope that is clear? But seriously overall this piece is fantastic and you can really see the work you have put into it! I am just nitpicking little details that will improve the realism of the image ^^

I don't animate, so I don't know. It's not free, but it isn't too expensive
