Description This was originally going to be another one in the Faux Pocket Watch Pendant series, but then I thought of putting a little bottle in there. I guess I'm slowly but surely working my way towards a Harry Potter-type Time Turner.

This is made from glass and watch parts, maple, walnut, the usual pin of ebony (carved from a piano key), and a type of wood called Osage Orange, leftover from the music stand I made last year. If it looks like I carefully shaped the top piece so it appears to be a part of the stopper to the bottle, well I cannot tell a lie. Total accident. I didn't even realize that was happening until I put the bottle in place.

The name of this piece comes from the contents of the bottle: two watch hands. Not many people know this, but you can keep a piece of time forever if you snap off the hands of a clock at the exact right moment. Keeping the moment from disintegrating involves a high quality bottle, and lot of skills in making home preserves. Obviously it's good manners to only preserve YOUR moments. Never trust anyone who has a bad habit of "accidentally" breaking other people's watches.

Edit: Ack! I almost forgot to give credit for the background. The eagle-eyed (and well-read) probably already figured it out, but that's the cover to "Palimpsest", a flat-out stunning book by Catherynne Valente. I have a lot of favorite authors, but Valente is one who's every book has been a joy. And I couldn't resist using that compass rose with one of my pendants.

Edit the second: Woooo! I decided at the last minute to enter this in this year's State Fair Craft Competition. Second place ribbon, my streak is intact!

The piece itself is brilliant, but the last paragraph makes it awesome.

I love when paragraphs like that just occur to me out of nowhere.
