Description
Okay so I wasn't really sure how to start this and you could skip to the part after the space for the main part of the article. I admit I never really wrote an article before and the subject in question for this one is gonna twist the panties of a lot of cheaply dyed, rainbow-haired, upper class twits into a knot. See this article you are reading before you is covering gamer girls and how they poison the well of good faith for female gamers. Something I want you to keep in mind is that gamer girls in this context doesn't- does not- just refer to women who play games solely for attention but rather also refer to guys who pretend to be girls to get items and gear without putting the effort in themselves. I'm saying both sexes have fucked with good faith of male gamers. I'm also gonna try to keep this as short as possible.
Its no lie that gamers get a lot of flak. I've gotten my fair share and then some. But when you are asked to prove yourself, to prove your gaming credentials there's this unspoken rule: Put up or shut up. Now that comes across as sexist to some people but is it really?
Since nearly its inception, gaming has been called a boys club even though that's been farther from the truth than anyone could really expect and the claim is usually coming from people detached from the community(and a lot of games journalist but that's an article in the making for another time). Male gamers, for the most part, actually want more women playing games you'd expect to be on consoles, both home and portable, and gaming PCs rather than just mobile games which I mention because the skewed statistics involving male and female gamers(again article for another time). They want to share their world, their hobby with more women, after all Video Games is the most inclusive hobby out there, but this of course is where the well gets poisoned.
They want so desperately to have more women enjoying the hobby that they are easily fooled by people claiming to be women or claiming to enjoy the hobby. Other male gamers realize they could fool these poor guys into giving them free gear and items while women who thrive off attention but don't actually like video games beyond the attention it gives them reap the special treatment they get just for being a women who game. And this happens time and time again because they don't want to believe anyone is just going to take advantage of their good-natured desire to include more people in the hobby they love and enjoy. But of course they eventually start believing it because their optimism about the situation has been worn down to the point of non-existence.
So what does this mean exactly?
For the most part, if you are a female gamer, one who genuine loves this shared hobby of ours and you are asked to prove your gaming credentials, don't take offence to it, don't get angry, have some sympathy because while they won't necessarily ask other guys they dawn well do expect the guys to prove themselves as well and they aren't asking you to prove yourself so much as they are asking that you prove their reason to be skeptic of you wrong.
But if you do take offence to it, ask yourself: Were you maybe expecting to get special treatment just because you are a woman? And if so, maybe ask yourself if other people like you have already poisoned the well of good faith from male gamers.
So is it bad that women are more vocally asked to prove themselves? Not gonna lie, it is. But is there a reason for that beyond the extremely lazy claims of sexism? Without a doubt in my mind, yes.
As for solutions to this problem? I honestly don't know where to begin. Dicks and assholes will be dicks and assholes after all so there's no asking the guys pretending to be girls and the girls who want a gaming sugar daddy to stop. Skeptical guys could start vocally asking more male newcomers to prove themselves too and girls could look at things from the guys' perspective.
Actually scratch that last part, I think we should all start looking at each others perspective more often because we may find the lines that divide us didn't really exist to begin with but then again what do I know, I'm going to be dismissed for being a cis, βstraight, whiteβ male by those cheaply dyed hair upper class twits I mentioned earlier instead of what I said.
Feel free to tell me what you think of the situation and what solutions
