Drew looked up at his friend from where he was sitting. Anne was pretty but not too much so, blonde hair and blue eyes, she was on the thin side but Drew hoped she wasn't in the unhealthy range, that would only make him worry about her more. But what really caught Drew's attention was her personality. She was kind and tolerant though she could be a bit snarky at times but he liked that about her, she was forgiving and cared about her friends deeply, enough so that even after he had screwed up when it came to her she still sent him a-just-because text. Even the things that didn't need saying, it wasn't hard to figure out why Drew had fallen for her.
But that's not important right now. I need to be a good friend and tell her.
He cleared his throat and brought up as much of his hidden confidence that he could. "I need you to sit down for the moment while I tell you something."
"Okay." She was surprised to be honest about this new authority in his voice. "What do you need to say?"
He looked at her in the eyes, not faltering until he began to speak. "First you are going to have comments after I tell you what I need to say so: No, I would never lie about something like this. If I had the evidence to back it up I would use it. Never for that reason, I'm just trying to fulfill my promise and to do that I need to be a better friend."
"I think I know where you're going with this but I want to hear you say it."
"Good, I figured it would go this way, or you would say what I was going to tell you. Now then last December around Christmas time I saw your boyfriend, Ryan, making out with some razor-thin pale-ass brunette. At first I thought it wasn't him because the guy I saw only had much shorter hair but..."
"You saw a more recent photo of him that matched the guy you saw."
"Exactly." He looked her straight in the eyes again. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner but I wanted to try and get evidence to back my claim up."
Anne looked at him. The area around his eyes was darker than usual, like he's been losing sleep over this. "You thought I wouldn't believe you because you like me and I'd think you were just trying to get me and Ryan to break up."
"Exactly," his voice calmed a little, closer to how he usually spoke.
"Though I am surprised," she replied. "I thought that if you caught him cheating, you would beat him up first and then tell me."
Drew smiled slightly. "The thought did cross my mind but if I did kick his ass before telling you about what he did, he could play the jealousy card because I would then seek you out to tell you in person giving him time to call you and claim I attacked him without reason."
That day the two became better friends. Drew is still in love with Anne but always prioritizes their friendship. Anne saw the real Drew hidden behind his 'soft mask' and came to respect him much more. As for the unseen Ryan, he caught a bunch of diseases from the girl he was cheating with, had sex with another girl without protection while knowing about those diseases, then sentenced to life in prison without parole at his trial.
