Description Well, here's the final model I had to make in my Architecture 101 class. It's supposed to be a house that hangs from a wire, has three wings, and is supposed to rotate in the wind. My instructor called it a propellor house.

This little monster took forever to make; it took over 20 hours to put together. I had to do some very stupid things while I made it, which made it take forever. I just had some real bad luck with it; even when I took these pictures, I didn't realize I was standing in dog crap!

It did get chosen to be put up in the school of architecture (thank god!), but I hope that it doesn't fall apart while it's hanging in there.

See yah! <---this thing is still adorable! I wish I knew where the bigger version is.

That is really creative I would love to be a bird and move into that one. hehe. A little hard for human to get into it though. but so nice!

hey this is sweet, i love it! The concept is awesome but how could you suspend the house for real? its a shame its so impractical, but it looks great! great work!

Thanks!

I didn't come up with the concept (the instructor did), but you could probably suspend it in a canyon or something (maybe use the cables they use on bridges?). This part sounds impractical, but you can slide down one of the cables to get to the entrance in the center of the top and that is where an elevator would be (at least I made a hint of one). I don't know about water and such though. The instructor had a crazy idea where it should spin in the wind or something! He even had an idea where we would make a house that floats on the duck pond at our school, but he never went through with it. He had some creative ideas, but he was very random!

Random indeed, the floating house sounds more probable then suspending a house, it would be pretty hard to get a secure connection between the canyon and the wires, the wires wouldn't be the problem, i think the actual connection would be harder (forget the spinning i think it would just fall down!). But maybe one day in the future we'll have jet packs and elevators will become obsolete! I think you should have gone with floating house designs, a little easier and more realistic, (maybe next time though) global warming is creeping up on us! haha

Cool... Its a creative idea, and a good solution to the problem...

Now that is a year latter and presumably another year into your program do you still thin 20hrs is a long time???

Thanks!

I'm afraid I didn't go into architecture (I wish I did when I had the chance). Maybe it'll happen later; I'm only 21.

But now that I think about it, 20 hrs wasn't too long when I saw the finished product; it was all worth it. It was great to see how my ideas came together to make this and I never made anything like it, so it was pretty cool to know I could make something like this. I wish I got it back, though!

A very imaginative idea :3 ...just don't put it in Kansas or the Caribbean. ^_~

Thanks! I didn't come up the propeller idea, I just did the design.

*mumbles* but that bastard teacher never gave this model back to me!

The idea is attractive.
But I think maybe you should do something to make it safes.
those string looks thin...

Farallan In reply to nanatea [2007-07-17 20:54:37 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

I wish I could do more to it (like maybe add shading for the windows), but my evil architecture teacher never gave it back to me! He never mentioned how I'm supposed to get it back!

But anyway, the strings are actually wires. They apparently held my model up pretty well. From what I saw, they hung it up like twenty feet in the air. I hope it's survived at least

I see.
So that's a homework?
My teacher also rarely gives my work back.

Yeah, it was the final project I had to do. I wanted to hang it up in my room when I got it back too.

I enjoyed your architectural deviation!
I included it here in this news article [link]
I hope that many more people can enjoy it

Well, i think you shouldn't be too concerned for the interior. I have a feeling that you had to concentrate on the exterior form and its relation with its environment. I think it looks great. Nice work.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Farallan In reply to SunsetSam [2007-05-12 03:00:51 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

Yeah, there was no way I could do anything about the interior in time. I was going to put in a little desk, bed, and table for each of the arms, but I just ran out of time. I'm glad I got as far as I did though!
People seemed to like it when they saw it and some people from the school of architecture took it along with some other models to show in the school. Now I have to try to get it back; those bastards aren't saying a word on how to get it back!

very nice design I'm just wondering though.. if it rotates in the wind then wouldn't everything inside fall or move? @__@ not to criticize.. sorry, but I do like it a lot

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Farallan In reply to SakuraCherrie [2007-05-02 02:42:12 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the comment!

I think stuff would move or fall, so I guess everything would have to be bolted down or the house would have to rotate very slowly. My instructor said something like one day you can see right down the canyon in one part of the house, and the next you see the canyon walls.

(Actually, there are a few other inconsistencies with this house too, like where waste goes, how to get to it, etc. My instructor really came up with the requirements rather randomly )

yeah I can see how the structure can be a bit unpractical XD but the overall design is very nice, and it would be great to see different views and such. but yeah I can see how there would be quite a few difficulties with some things XD

holy hell thats a nice house...

wish i had one...

Farallan In reply to Eternityhero [2007-05-02 02:53:38 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! ^___^

You may not want it when you find out about all it's problems!

The house:
1) is a pain in the ass to get to
2) probably rocks in the wind
3) is missing the flooring in some areas (I forgot to put glass in those areas!)
4) is like one of those houses that look great on the outside, but are complete crap on the inside.
