The funny thing is, Cell was pretty much the most caring father in DBZ
Goku was so rarely there for Gohan (with a few notable exeptions of course),
and it's surprizing that Trunks got through infancy without being murdered by Vegeta

After Freiza's death he very quickly stopped caring and tried to bargain with Trunks, pinning everything on his son. To quote King Cold form Budokai tenkaichi 3: "He was a terrible son anyway".
Still a better father than Vegeta though.
