lol I love reading the whining of how this isnt "art" and its not what deviantart is all about. Im not sure about some of you people, but I've seen my fare share of porn and this isnt it, but thats just opinion, and thats what art is.. opinions. I see the same dozen or so people coming to fbuk's photos and bitching and moaning like its somehow affecting their lives. DeviantArt is for everyone, give everyone the same amount of respect you would like in return, that shouldnt be a problem.. right?

As an artist I would think that you would be against any kind of censorship. YOU may not think this is art but that does not make it art. Art is about expression. Whether it's self expression or the interpretation of something or someone else, art is this and everything that the human mind can create.
Deviantart is a community of artists, both professional and amateur, where we can share ideas and work. There is no room for censorship. Deviantart isn't a place for that and I would hope that as an artist you would respect that in other peoples work.
Fbuk is a professional. Photography is how he makes a living. Who are you to judge what is art and what isn't?
I do not mean for this to be inflammatory at all but such ignorant comments point out how, throughout history, artists have always been censored one way or another and that this way of thinking is only detrimental to the artist community as a whole.
I would like to think that the Deviantart community as a whole is above this.

Who are you to decide what Art is?
I've looked at your gallery and I think you've got talent. But how would you feel if I called any of your works not art? I wouldn't of course because I can respect you enough to appreciate the time and effort that went into each and every piece in your gallery. Art is personal. An attack on someone's self expression hurts. But you need to respect the fact that each and every artist has the right to express himself the way they want... whether it's drawing, sculpting, photography, music, dance... etc. Art exists whether you think it's art or not.
You may not think what Fbuk has posted is Art but that doesn't make it true. He is a professional. This is what he does. You may not like it but that's alright. Deviantart is an ARTIST community where professionals and amateurs can share their work. A community where it should be safe to express oneself freely without fear of reprimand or censure. This is why so many artists have flocked to this site and why it thrives. As soon as someone starts imposing what THEY THINK IS ART, this place is no longer a community.

Well then if I can freely express myself then I can say just that. I didn't say it was bad but in my opinion I dont consider it art. My one opinion shouldn't destroy deviant or this artist self esteem. Besides artist have to deal with people who dont like thier art in real life and in cyberspace. We should just agree to disagree and call it a day. Thank you for your compliment and your perspective.

Thank you for your kind response. I hope you understand that Art is personal. It isn't that your opinion will destroy this artists self esteem but if you look at all the other comments of "this is not art this is porn" sentiments that pervades the community as a whole, it's very disheartening. I am a professional artist and I would like to keep DA into a positive community and open forum to share their work... this isn't a place to force one's agenda or taste in art. It's a place to nurture and support all forms of self expression. As soon as this place turns into a soap box for anyone to push what THEY consider is Art and what is NOT ART, this place will lose what is the greatest strength of DA: the freedom of expression.
Sure you are free to express yourself. But saying that "artists have to deal with people who don't like their art in real life and in cyberspace," is really just BS. I teach Art, I am an artist, but I would NEVER ever tell another person that what they created is not Art. I will give them an honest critique on how they can improve on their work and what I like and don't like because we all need words of encouragement. Say what you will about the thick skin an artist should have but lets be honest here... If someone rips into something you put all your heart and time into, it's going to hurt.
How would you feel if everyone came to your gallery and told you how your deviations all suck? Pretty crappy right? I would, and I get judged by my drawings all the time because I get paid for it! But if you received honest and supportive comments on your gallery you would probably feel a lot better about your work and work harder to get better. See how a few kind words can help someone get better?
With the internet there's this attitude that one's opinion should always be shared about anything.... What a lot of people forget that when it comes to art, It's no one's business to tell how people should express themselves. I checked out your gallery and I see talent. But I'm not going to destroy your work with a lot of negative comments because that wouldn't be fair. The most I would say would probably be to try drawing poses and expressions that you haven't drawn before to help push yourself out of your "comfort zone" of drawing. Then once you've mastered that, pick an artist you admire and try to master that artists style.. once you've mastered that artist, go onto another.. and so on. Eventually what you learn from each artist will shape your own unique style. You'll eventually hone your talents to professional level and so on.
This is why DA is a unique place. Where else could you get tips and a critique from a pro artist as an amateur? It wasn't until I was in college before I actually met a professional artist and get feedback. The internet is a wonderful thing. That being said, If I ever got the kind of comments that Fbuk and other pro photographers have been getting recently about my own work, I would probably just leave this place because I don't have the time for that kind of crap. Especially since I'm sharing what most people will never see. Did you ever think that Fbuk could help new photographers with tips about pro photography? It may not be your cup of tea but someone may be interested on how he lights a subject, problems with shooting outdoors, etc.
You may not like some things on DA, but don't stop others from sharing what is very personal to them. If you have nothing constructive to say and you are merely stating your taste then don't bother posting because that's NEVER helpful. But if you have something insightful and relevant than by all means share.
I'll tell you one last thing, I've never told another artist that I don't think what they do isn't art.. it's not professional... it's not respectful... it's just plain mean.
