Description This is actually a scene from a proposed short film I had to make up to get into an animation course at uni...I rather like it...it would look even cooler if I ever manage to make this film...in 3d of course...

Here's the little written proposal that goes with the pic...

The animated film that I wish to make is based on the emotion, or feeling, of curiosity. This is definitely an emotion that motivates people, although it is often not necessarily always to a good end, hence the saying, “Curiosity killed the cat”. The main and only character in this film is a fairly ordinary man, who does not know who or where he is. During the film, he encounters a series of doorways, and curiosity takes over as he wonders what is on the other side, and then finds out. The film does not really have a conclusion, but is left open at the end with the character staring at another door, which leaves the audience curious as well, enhancing the theme of the film.

The fist scene of the film shows meteors falling from space towards a small, barren, moon-like planet. As the meteors fall, some become fireballs as they enter the atmosphere. The camera then moves to show a small spacecraft travelling around the planet. The pilot looks up to see a meteor hit the spacecraft, and both objects begin to hurtle towards the planet. The last camera shot shows the surface of the planet from the perspective of the pilot, as it gets closer and closer, and then camera blacks out.

The next scene shows the pilot trudging wearily across the vast planes of the planet. There is no sign of the ship. Then there is a voice-over of the pilot: “who am I, and what is this place?” The pilot continues to walk along. Suddenly, he hears music playing, similar to the kind of tune from a music box. He looks up, to see a doorway and a closed door, directly in front of him, in the middle of nowhere, apparently not leading anywhere. The camera zooms out from the other side of the door as he begins to open it, and then spins around to behind him and zooms in and travels through the door as he flings it open, suddenly revealing a completely different world, and no door. The pilot finds himself in a futuristic city, with tall buildings and rows and rows of flying cars, similar to those in Star Wars or The Fifth Element. The pilot makes his way to the street on the ground, and walks along, taking in his surroundings. Suddenly he hears the music again. It is coming from a room that opens onto the street. The pilot enters the completely empty room, and finds an identical doorway. He enters it and finds himself in yet another different world, this time a vast green field with nothing but grass for miles, save a single tree on a hill next to him. He walks around for a while, and then hears the music again. The film ends as he looks over his shoulder to see another doorway behind him.

I love the feel of this. I'm suprised you don't see things like this more. I can't say that I have.
