looks like something a kea could evolve into giving time and opportunity.
and keeping the intelligence kea's have, it would be a very dangerous predator.Β

oh,Β  must have not been here a long time, noticing I made a same sort of comment before.

Β Come to think of it, it does kind of look like part phorusrhacos AND part tyrannosaurus (with a hint of zebra finch and either tragopans or eared pheasants)! LOL!Β

That black and white pattern is stunning, it looks distant yet familiar at the same time.

More like a giant killer sparrow. (if it could still be called a sparrow)

Β By the way, when you said that it's a giant predator, were you meant to say that it is as big as a tyrannosaurus?

Β That's okay. No artist has ever been perfect. Plus, I love how you drew the stripes.

If the claws are touching the ground shouldn't they be a bit more dull? I suggest padding on the feet

Just curious, what is the giant bird's modern day ancestor?

Sparrows in this project, although i suppose it could be any generalist modern bird

This somehow appeared while I was looking for skeletal references of Abelisaurus. I was intrigued by it as it appeared to be a very unorthodox restoration of a phorusrhacid. And now I read it is part of a spec evo project - just makes it even more awesome!

Having skimmed through your gallery I can see you are very talented, although not particularly active. I hope you continue this project into the future.

Now, time to go on a faving spree!

Thanks a lot, I appreciate that. At the moment I'm posting much more often than usual because i'm home for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately I tend to get bogged down/distracted by other stuff, but hopefully that's going to change, it's been really fun picking up artwork again

I've got another painting for this project rolling up soon, hopefully i'll get that finished in a day or twoΒ Β

Do you have an idea of what the carnornis evolved from?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Feath3rFace In reply to Peterturek827 [2015-03-29 23:32:04 +0000 UTC]

The idea for this project is that a group of sparrows are released on the surface of a terraformed planet and given the eons to evolve. They're the only vertebrates on the planet, so have niches too numerable to count open for exploitation. So in rather long-winded terms, they evolved from tree sparrows, as did every vertebrate on this planet.

This concept is rather outdated though, I need to update a lot of things on it.
