  I felt the cold night air pass through us as we fled, my mind in a whirl of thoughts as my wounded pride still bled. It was a mixture of frustration, searing pain of my burns and anger boiling in my head, but at the same time I tried to stay calm. The overwhelming weight of my own impotence hung on my shoulders, I felt completely useless... Those damn wisps, why was it was so hard to fight them? Even though in a way, it was pretty stupid trying to fight the spirits of flames with my own hands.

Cameo followed dutifully behind me as we ran until we outwitted the wisps that ambushed us completely. Trying to convince her to retreat was decidedly less difficult than to convince myself, I won’t lie. In a situation like that, I couldn’t just leave my friend roasting to death by her own stubbornness, so I had to be sensible this time .

... But the fact of not being able to protect her still gnawed my insides.

We stopped in a clearing, while the pain of our recent burns was tempered by the cold wind that cut through the night. I took a second look back, checking if we had been followed. Releasing the tension, I managed to say between gasps.

“Damn, that was a close one... Are you ok, Cam?”

She simply nodded, the look on her face said more than words ever could. She was just as frustrated as myself, two strong girls like us being outnumbered and outmatched in the same day? I’d say that was impossible not too long ago, but was soon to be proven terribly mistaken. We stood in a quite awkward silence, avoiding eye contact as I couldn't think of anything else to say. I moaned slightly in pain as I felt the burns sting, it was like that day... the day I dug the wrong way, and got awful cuts. It was the second time my lack of knowledge was hurting me... Hopefully it wouldn't leave any scars this time. I didn't need any other reminders of my own stupidity.

As we rested in silence, I noticed something approach us... It seemed like a bipedal, red colored wyngro. In the dark night I could barely recognize anyone, so I couldn't remember if I saw him before. I just realized we had acquaintances when he started to speak.

“Hey, you two!!” He ran towards us really clumsily, like if he was about to trip over, probably still getting used to being bipedal. He then stopped running and held his index finger up, supporting himself on his knees as he panted to regain breath. We just stared in shock the unusual guy, was he being chased by wisps or something?

He then relaxed, standing up proudly before he started to speak again.

“I heard some screams from that house over there! There's a family trapped in the fire!” His eyes were filled with both worry and plead. “I need your help... please...” He approached us, and I gave a step back warily. “You two seem so strong! Please, people are in danger!”

The surprise expression soon changed to a smile. Strong? Did he really think so? Well, I guess we were the best for the case in the end, heh! I looked at Cameo and she also smiled. In the end I guess it was pretty easy to bribe us to do something, haha.

  “Heh, ok dude, don't worry. Where are the—” And then screams erupted from somewhere not too far away from there. I stared into the distance and saw a huge cloud of black smog over a wooden house that was being turned to ashes. However, the family managed to escape without any apparent help. The mother carried the crying child in her arms as she and the father ran away… So who was screaming? It was a very feminine voice apparently.

  Judging by the red one’s reaction, he figured what was going on, as he screamed with all his lungs.

  “NYMBLE!!” He seemed like he was about to have a panic attack, his desperate expression getting worse as he looked around the place. “Oh my God, I told him to stay here!! Ahhh!! He must be in there!!” I watched him start jumping in place, absolutely unsure on what to do. Suddenly Cameo jumped into action, running towards the burning house and I followed her lead.

  “Come on, we have no time to lose!” I said as we dashed towards the house. Meanwhile the red one fell behind and tried to follow us but was not as fast. Cameo looked at me for a brief moment and our eyes met, determination overflowing from her as I smirked back and nodded.

  “Let’s do this.”

Ahhh ok, let me tell you
This was WAY TOO MUCH FUN TO WORK ON! Omg x'D I hope I portrayed all the characters right!
