Oh noes, teh murderses!! O___O!!No, not really.
Rathanon (the black Azu) is about to throw down with an offscreen antagonist (your POV). The antagonist's been slapping around Ratha's companion, Dreedaok (the gray Azu) and now Ratha's gone a little insane.
Ratha and his best friend encountered this same antagonist when he was a youngster (I've not decided what it is yet, which is why I'm just calling it "antagonist"
). The thing attacked them both and Ratha ran the hell away. His friend wasn't quite fast enough and the thing killed him. So Ratha's been having guilt issues for ages. So now the thingy's threatening Dree and he's gone berserk.Scene's originally a result of listening to way too many reps of Within Temptation's "Stand My Ground".
Forgive the crappy background. Especially the grass. I've not had a lot of time to devote to art lately, and I wanted the thing done.
Watermark's a little intrusive on this one. >_< Still trying to find the balance between visibility and distraction. >_>;

Though the subject matter is sad, this is actually empowering on a certain level. Rathanon's rage and energy is so atmospheric that it's contagious.
There's so much to look at here. You've got the perfectly shadowed grass and Rathanon's glowing eyes boring into you through the driving rain. I love how the lightning casts a blue backlight across the edges of his body. It seems very realistic how you've got it highlighting the clouds and the rest of the composition. Having poor Dreedaok's prone form directly behind Rathanon's enraged form is the perfect way to convey the story. The lightning is a dramatic way to symbolize the energy that is collected in this scene. Crazy cool.

Crappy background.. ahg whatever.. I love it. It sets the scene wonderfully.. Rathanon is such a glowy wonderful azu.
It looks like something out of a movie I would love seeing. It's colorful and vivid in a way that seems to make it beg for animation.
It's even got happy little trees in the distance.
And so what for clichΓ©s like the weather reflecting mood... it's awesome no matter how many times it's ever, ever done.

Yeah, they can sometimes go kinda snarly and nutso and "rar! I eat your face!" Dree is fine. This event occurs about two months or so before Kiloshar's clan ran into them. She heals up fine.
You know how "So!!" got its title? O_o I'd love to know that one. And the other one too.

Wow, that's amazing... the emotion and dynamic of the picture with the storm going on and Rathanon's anger is really intense. I'd hate to be on the receiving end of that, but it sounds like this antagonist has it coming, rrr. Great job!

The storm is a little cliche for this type of thing, but I thought it suited the mood. lol In my mind the scene was actually supposed to take place at sunset in a dry season savannah-esque habitat. But when I tried it on screen it ended up looking oddly peaceful. O_o; So I gave in to the angsty storm clouds instead.

The only thing I can come up with is perhaps you're flashing back to a scene from one of the Jurassic Park movies? His posture and pose is rather like their velociraptors when they're charing. Other than that, I got nothing. You have a history of pissing off fictional species?
